Rose to return!

by Elisa

Yes, you read that right. After last week’s question, I’m actually a little amused to see this announcement. Okay, I’m excited too. The official BBC Doctor Who Site is announcing that Billie Piper will return as Rose in series four. They are not confirming when or how, at this point, and it looks like they only announced this much because of the sitings of Billie in Cardiff. I’ve seen some pictures and it’s definitely her. I wonder how they are going to manage it storywise. No matter how much I might worry about how this return is managed, I can’t wait to see it now. Is it next year yet?

So, to sum up: Billie Piper will return as Rose in series four. We don’t yet know when or how. Fans may squee now.

This can’t end well. Just three episodes. What, another Jack-type ending where she wants to stay with Torchwood (alternate universe) or something. Hmmm…I can’t think of a way Rose can come back without thinking they should have just killed her off in the first place. She can’t be a companion again, can she?

  2. Elisa Jenkins Says:

I have to agree. None of us are going to like how this ends. Especially if the rumors of DT leaving are true.

  3. The Dude Says:

DT leaving? They’ve been saying that since he started… wouldn’t believe it since the show is bending over backwards to accommodate his time doing Shakespeare.

Not really happy about Rose returning… she kinda bugged. Also think it cheapens her loss (sure she bugged, but that was a tough one). My guess? She has a life and will have to chose between the life she had and the one she has.

Put me solidly in the Martha camp… Donna? Here’s hoping she really did what she said she was going to and started paying attention to what was going on around her.

  4. Elisa Says:

Okay. 1) I just don’t believe that DT is leaving. Else, why the Doctor Who gap year? So, The Dude, I’m with you on that one.

    2) The last I saw, they were going to have her for 3 episodes, like Jack last year. That was on the BBC News site, though not on the official Doctor Who one. I find myself torn. I don’t see how a temporary appearance can work out, but I want to see Rose again. Perhaps she’s a projection? Just an image and all?

  5. Ben Says:

I hope they get their best writer on this one, because it seems to be easy to screw up. It could be brilliant of course. I would like to see it built into a long story arc that goes throughout the season.

I am not a huge fan of the idea, but if it is done right it could be left better than before (i.e. heightening the tragedy of it all somehow)
