Reaction Post: Utopia

This is the reaction post for Doctor Who season 3 episode 11: Utopia by Russell T. Davies himself. Guess what? It’s part one of three! That’s a first for the new series. And how can you go wrong with an episode containing both John Barrowman and Sir Derek Jacobi? Oh, go past the spoiler barrier already! You know you want to.
Oh My God. Let me just say that again. Oh My God.
I think I might be parsing this episode for days. Right. I must now attempt to be coherent.
How the *heck is The Doctor going to get out of this one? The Master (who The Doctor recognized, by the way) stole the frickin’ TARDIS (and his hand, eww. I wonder if he’s going to use it as a Doctor detector, or if he just took it to fool the TARDIS.)! Um…re-wire Jack’s time hopping wrist band? (Unless The Master has his TARDIS somewhere nearby, which I doubt.)
I’m a bit over-loaded right now, as you might imagine. Anyway, Martha overheard the whole conversation between Jack and The Doctor about Rose and why Jack can’t die. Interesting that The Doctor can just look at him and tell what the issue with Jack is. Also, Jack had to wait 150 years for The Doctor to come back? And how about all those times Jack died? So, a Time Lord absorbing the vortex would become a vengeful God, yeah? For how long? A few minutes? Look what happened to The Doctor when he took the vortex from Rose. And they actually talked about Rose. For real, not just the falsely cheery brush-off. The Doctor didn’t hold anything back. I like that Jack popped by to check on her when she was growing up. That whole conversation from both sides of the door to the radiation filled room was really well done. The Doctor left Jack behind because of what Rose turned him into. And they both miss her terribly it would seem. I was also glad to see that Jack is still hitting on everyone, or rather, is back to normal.
So, The Master used a chameleon arch at some point in the past. I wonder when that was relative to the Time War. Of all the Time Lords to survive, it would just have to be him. Couldn’t be Romana or someone else who’s friendly. It was his Nemesis.
Part 1 of 3. I don’t know if I’m going to survive this. Good luck in Utopia remnants of the human race. The Doctor has to figure out how to get back to Earth, and save it from The Master…and we have to survive another cliff-hanger. Oh, this isn’t going to be easy.

I am in total agreement when it comes to my enjoyment of everything dealing with Captain Jack and The Doctor. I also loved The Professor and The Master (New voice how weird)
As a stand alone episode through, I thought it was a way to take 10-13 minutes of very important data and sprinkle it across 45 minutes of show. I never got hooked on the plight of the humans or Utopia. Ah well, it surved its purpose.
The little boy who won the cameo was excellent. Good for him! He may be The Doctor some day

As you can see from my reaction post, Cyndi, I wasn’t too coherent either.
