Reaction Post: Torchwood Series 2.2 - Sleeper

First of all, I apologize for this post being late this week. Both my husband and I are sick right now, and as I’m not allowed to watch the episode without him, it took a while to finally see it. But now, I have. So, this is the reaction post for Torchwood Series 2, Episode Two - Sleeper. Due to the state of my health (and thus the state of my cognitive abilities) I feel that this post will be a bit more disjointed than usual. As per usual, I’ve only seen the episode once, so let’s see what filters out, shall we?

Well then. Things are still on schedule for Series 2. I felt that this was also a nice strong episode. A nice strong episode with lots of great Ianto lines. This pleases me much.

“Ring Ring. Is anyone there? No. ‘Cause the phones don’t work.”
“I know everything. Plus, it’s at the bottom of the screen.”
“And I thought that the end of the world couldn’t get any worse.”
“What you do to security systems is almost obscene.”

Also, Ianto offering his arm to Gwen after they put Beth in Cold Storage was very sweet of him.

Jack was at his implacable best in this episode, even though Ianto had some fun annoying him about his interrogation skills. Owen suggesting that if it is the end of the world, they should all have sex was fairly predictable, but also funny. Tosh’s amusement with the security systems she dealt with was fun to watch. Were those guys seriously even trying? Gwen is probably the only reason that Beth didn’t freak out and kill them all sooner. She does a good line in “Good Cop” to Jack’s “Bad Cop.” I looks like Jack is in charge again. No one should leave him in charge of interfacing with the police, though. “Making friends?” “No.” Owen is shirking his duty, leaving Gwen to watch the burglars and leaving. Oh! and I loved Jack’s “dashing hero like me” line. The disbelieving look that Gwen gave him was priceless.

And now I wonder exactly how much those aliens know about Jack. I mean, sure they know about Torchwood, but do they know about the Jack not dying thing? Or perhaps the he’s from the future thing? And they’re already here? So…how did the thwarting of the nuclear weapons change their plans? I suppose that we’ll find out soon enough. I’m betting that they’ll be using Janet as an alien detector more often, though.

I really felt badly for “Beth,” but I understand why she made the choice that she did. The lady who played her did a great job.

New Intro! New Images and the voiceover has changed.

Bedside Manner vs. manners in Bed? Now that was funny.

That’s all I’ve got this time around. What did you think?

I loved it. They’re keeping it edgy but still with a sense of humor. Can’t wait to see what happens next.

    I can’t wait either. :D
