Reaction Post: The Sarah Jane Adventures - The Day of the Clown (part 2)

by Elisa

This is the Reaction Post for The Sarah Jane Adventures series two - The Day of the Clown (part 2).

Has anyone heard any news about when The Sarah Jane Adventures series 2 might appear elsewhere? Like, perhaps, The United States or Australia?

As per usual, my rambling reactions to this episode are hidden behind the spoiler barrier. Click if you dare.

Yay for the gang being saved by a cell phone! A well-timed rescue, that. Normally, a cell phone ringing in a tense situation such as that would have caused harm rather than help. Come to think of it, cell phones seem to play a rather large part in the Whoniverse. Interesting.

Apparently, Luke is keeping track of how many times they’ve saved the world. (I’m glad that he’s still showing that he misses Maria. I miss her, too.) It’s good that Rani is fitting in (and I’m still amused by her name. Perfectly appropriate as it may be, it’s still the name of a renegade Time Lady.) She seems like she’ll be a great asset to the team.

I didn’t know, or at least didn’t remember, that Sarah Jane had been raised by her Aunt Lavinia as her parents had died when she was quite young. That bit with Luke comforting his Mum was sweet.

Clowns. yeek. I’m still with Sarah Jane on this one. Interesting how the being they faced “Mr. Spellman/Odd Bob, etc.” was from a very little known area of space. I liked what they did with the Pied Piper story here. The Pied Piper? Alien. Freaky-clown alien, but alien nonetheless. And defeated by laughter. Good thing Clyde was there to jump in with his bad jokes.

So, apart from the clown thing, I thought that this two-parter was a decent introduction for Sarah Jane’s new companion. It’ll be interesting to see how they manage to bring her up to speed without resorting to a bunch of exposition.

  1. The Vig Says:

Good eye, I wonder if the Time Lady refernce was deliberate?

Overall I think this was a very good episode. Nice to see that the new companion has a mum and a dad in the same home.

  2. Bill Says:

According to this Wired interview, series two will start running in the US after the series two run finishes on the BBC.

  3. Elisa Says:

The Vig, it’s not just me. Doctor What commented on the Part 1 post with the same observation.

    Thanks, Bill!
