Reaction Post: The Sarah Jane Adventures - The Day of the Clown (part 1)

Series two of The Sarah Jane Adventures is finally here. (Well, in the UK anyway.) I wonder how long it will take for it to arrive elsewhere. Have any of you heard anything?
This is the Reaction Post for The Sarah Jane Adventures series two - The Day of the Clown (part 1).
As per usual, my rambling reactions to this episode are hidden behind the spoiler barrier. Click if you dare.
Ack! I really don’t like clowns. I know I’m not alone in this. I mean, look at Sarah Jane. After this episode…I’ll bet that there will be more folks like me out there. Eek.
Interesting that they chose to involve the Pied Piper legend here. I’m curious to see how this turns out. I thought that the actor did a great job changing voices with each character he plays. Freaky, but well done.
Sarah Jane put in a bit of effort to seem welcoming to the new neighbors this time around. Mind you, it also allowed her to check out the house to make sure that everything was okay. “Do you save the world every day or just Mondays?” (I think it was.) And the look on her face. Hilarious!
Rani seems to be fitting in well with our two lone boys. She’s a bit too inquisitive for her own good. I do hope that she’s a bit more understanding of Luke when she gets all of the facts, though. I like the fact that her father is the new head of the school, which gives them a reason to have moved into town.
Poor Luke. It’s nice to see that he still misses Maria. That provides a nice continuity. I prefer shows that don’t just up and forget characters that have left.
I’m truthfully quite freaked out by the thought of the second half, but now I need to know what happens. I guess I’ll just have to wait and see.

Did anyone else think it was odd that the new Maria is named Rani? Is that an arbitrary choice given the pedigree of the program and the connotations that that name calls up for Doctor Who fans? Could The Rani be returning? Nah, probably not.

I’m there with you, Doctor What. It can’t just be in isolation. Perhaps it’s just a nod to the fans. Who knows?
