Reaction Post: The Sarah Jane Adventures 1.2 - Eye of the Gorgon (part 2)

This is the Reaction Post for The Sarah Jane Adventures series 1, episode 2 - Eye of the Gorgon (part 2). When we last left our intrepid team it was cliff hanger time. Did they manage to sort things out?

Join me for my usual disjointed thoughts past the spoiler barrier.

Okay. Let’s just hope that Maria’s Dad thinks that this whole adventure was all a dream. Otherwise, there could be trouble in the future. And what was her Mum doing sneaking into Sarah Jane’s house, anyway? Naughty.

I’m thinking that most non-possessed by a Gorgon nuns probably don’t drive hearses. That should generally be a sign of danger right there, or at least some sort of warning. It was nice to discover that those ladies were all being controlled, though I wonder how that all worked out. It’s too bad that the rest of the stone statues couldn’t be returned to life. Well…I’m not too upset about the annoying lady from the retirement home. She wasn’t nice. (You have to think that the prop folks must have had a field day with that garden.)

I’m so glad that Bea was able to help, even though her mind isn’t what it used to be. She even remembered to send a mirror that ended up saving Sarah Jane. I wish that we could learn more about Edgar and their adventures together, and I hope that our team still pops by to check on her occasionally. Isn’t Phyllida Law fabulous?

Luke is really getting the hang of the “we’re trapped, must escape now” thing. He used his brain to escape twice during this episode. He’s got the whole “honor” thing down, too. He was the one who was supposed to guard the talisman, so he’s not going to let the baddies keep it. Clyde did a really good job on the bells and the swift taking to his heels thing. Heavens he’s a fast runner. And even though he wanted to leave, he still stayed to help out. (Loved the manly fist bump that the two boys did in celebration.)

Yay for Maria managing to save her Dad! (One thing I enjoy about this show is the bits of believable emotions that appear. There are even tiffs and angry-words-that-you-don’t-actually-mean.) It’s a good thing that Maria seems to have quite good nerves and a clear head in a crisis. She appeared on the scene just in time to save Sarah Jane from being possessed by the Gorgon and close the portal.

So…yeah. I liked this episode, even if the first half freaked me out a little. What did you all think?
