This is the reaction post for Doctor Who: series 3 episode 1 - Smith and Jones. My full-fledged review will appear after this episode airs in the U.S. Spoiler warning!

So, what did you all think? First of all, I liked the episode, but it felt a bit short somehow. Perhaps this has something to do with the pace of the episode? I think that Martha is an interesting character. I loved her reaction to being on the moon. (I have always wanted to go to Mars, but I’d be happy to go to the Moon.) So…The Doctor used to have a brother? Might that be The Master? It has been hinted from time to time that they were brothers. Something to ponder, anyway. Um…Hello? Scary bloodsucker who carries a straw? She was a bit freaky, yeah? And does it occur to anyone that The Doctor’s Deathwish might be back? How about The Doctor’s “dance of radiation removal?” We didn’t get to see more of the TARDIS, but we did get to see The Doctor’s feet. (Now Martha knows he’s a bit on the crazy side.) I felt so bad for The Doctor still trying to save everyone with no Sonic Screwdriver, no TARDIS, almost no blood, no oxygen, and no shoes. That bit was really well acted, I felt. I think that my favorite bit was The Doctor pretending to be human when he was talking to the Plasmavore. That was hilarious. The Doctor miming “bigger on the inside” amused the heck out of me as well. It was nice to see that he still misses Rose, but he still carries on. The Plasmavore saw something about that in him, didn’t she? Hm. I think I need to see the episode again. Anyway, did you like the episode?

  1. The Vig Says:

Yes, “the bigger on the inside” bit was very funny. I mean it felt so natural for The Doctor to mime it, after all everyone says it when they first see the inside.

  2. Elisa Says:

That whole bit was funny. You sort of had the feeling that he was just waiting for her to get past that part.

  3. lisa-marie Says:

Sigh! I’m so jealous of you right now. I guess we in the States have to wait till this summer for more Doctor. It’s gonna be a long few months!!
