Reaction Post: Sarah Jane Adventures 1.0 - Invasion of the Bane

This is the Reaction Post for The Sarah Jane Adventures Pilot Episode - Invasion of the Bane. I really enjoyed this episode, and I am so happy that Sarah Jane has finally made it to the US. If you wish to read my thoughts on the episode, in my usual rambling style, feel free to click past the spoiler barrier and discuss it with me.

Well, if this pilot episode is anything to judge by, I’m going to love this show. Maria, Luke, and Sarah Jane make quite the team. I’m glad that they all survived the encounter with the Bane. (Is Mrs. Wormwood now to be the “bane” of Sarah Jane’s existence?) Oh! And the passage from The Bible that Sarah Jane mentioned when she was talking to Mrs. Wormwood is Revelation 8:10-11, if you are interested.

Sarah Jane has residual Artron Energy from her time in the TARDIS. She also has a Sonic Lipstick! It looks to me like everything could be “more sonic.” I wonder if it actually works as a lipstick, too. Her watch seems to connect to her computer named “Mr. Smith.” I wonder if it is named after The Doctor of is merely an echo of her name. Could she use Mr. Smith to call The Doctor if she needed to? Poor K-9 is fixing a black hole that happens to be in Sarah Jane’s attic. How long that will take? Well, anyway, I like her house.

“There are two kinds of people in the world. Those who panic and us.” I’m glad that Sarah Jane has found people to not panic with her. You can see that Maria doesn’t much take after her mother. (Apart from the taste bud thing.) She looks more like her dad, and I wonder how he’d deal with the stuff that Maria knows about. Also, it makes me quite happy that Sarah Jane has a family now. It isn’t good for her to be alone. She has Luke as a son, and a neighbor who is a lot like her.

I feel good about not drinking soda pop now. *shiver* “Organic what?” indeed.

So, what did you think?

I liked the pictures of the Brig and Harry in her attic, as well as her mentioning Harry & Alistair as possible names for Luke. The ep definitely got better as it went along to the point that I was really enjoying it by the end and made me excited for the next one. I must say, though, the neighbor girl is incredibly annoying, I truly hope she isn’t a regular. And I also loved the line “There are two kinds of people in the world. Those who panic and us.” Heck, I just love to have Sarah Jane back regularly again.

I loved this first episode, and I’m so looking forward to watching the rest of the series! Sarah Jane used to irritate me no end, but she’s grown up to be a very brave, resourceful woman, and I really like her now.

  3. Aline Says:

Neighbor-girl is gone, replaced by the young man to the right in the above picture. I’m really looking forward to this series.

  4. Erik Says:

Thank you, Alaine. I was hoping that was the case as I didn’t think I saw her in the promotional photos from the show. Now I’m really looking forward to this Friday!

  5. Elisa Says:

Erik, also there were drawings of the TARDIS and such. I so need to watch it again.

lisa-marie, I’m glad that you enjoyed it. Is it too geeky of me to want to grow up to be Sarah Jane?

Aline, thanks for the intel. :)
