Reaction Post: Blink

Hello. I’m reacting from behind the sofa this week. Blink was excellent…and also really creepy. And it was originally a short story that Steven Moffat wrote for the 2006 Doctor Who Annual. Want to know more? Venture behind the spoiler barrier!
Okay. Apparently, every year that includes a Christmas Special (because of production schedules) there will also be an episode with not so much Doctor in it. So, who else votes to have Steven Moffat write every one of those episodes? Dear heavens! This episode was fabulous. Well, fabulous and freaky. Great casting, great writing, great acting… You get the idea. I liked the episode. Even the other guy in the DVD shop did a good job. Carey Mulligan, who played Sally Sparrow, was magnetic on the screen. I just loved her conversation with The Doctor on DVD. I also felt terrible for all of those folks who were lost in time. It was interesting how they just ended up adapting and moving on after finding themselves in this unreal situation. What were the Weeping Angels doing there in the first place, I wonder? That whole Quantum Locking thing was an interesting idea. Luckily, The Doctor is a very clever fellow and managed to save the day even from a whole other time. I felt a bit bad for Martha, though. She had to work in a shop to support The Doctor and herself. (I wonder how long they were trapped?) I’ll bet that The Doctor had to spend some time avoiding himself. Hopefully he got the TARDIS back before 1970, as that’s when The 3rd Doctor got trapped on Earth. That could have been a bit…awkward. I wonder what he and Martha were off to kill with that bow and arrow at the end. What did you think? Next week..The Return of Captain Jack!!…er, that is Utopia…complete with Sir Derek Jacobi.

This episode was awesome! Soooo much better than love and monsters.
Debbie even jumped a time or two.
You know I use to love gargoyles and now … not so much.
What a wonderful birthday present. It would have only been better had I been able to watch it with friends.

Happy Birthday, The Vig!!!
Good to know Steven Moffat has a 2 parter next year, eh?

Is it just me or does somebody have an obsession with “Pirates of the Cariberran”?
Captain Jack?
Sally Sparrow?
I have to agree though. GREAT epi. Very intense and so incredibly well done. Next week should be extremely interesting.

Great, great episode.
I would be completely in favor of a Sally Sparrow spinoff.

According to Martha’s MySpace page, they spent “a few weeks” in 1969. And it seems to me that living in cramped quarters with The Doctor may have cooled her romantic longing for him. She may have accepted that they’re “just friends.” Maybe we’ll see next week.

Best episode of this series by far, I loved the intensity, the comedy aspects, and the weeping angels were wonderfully realised.

Well, MKE, you have a point there, as Steven Moffat created both characters. I now await someone with the last name “Turner” in the two-parter next year.

Dave, those angels were scary, weren’t they?

“Love and Monsters” is genius for what it is–a parody of the fandom.
That said, “Blink” is how to do a Doctor-lite episode perfectly…
I think a lot of it is the angels, but also a good bit of it was the actress playing Sally was fabulous in the role. She carried the whole episode.

Eric J,
Ooo…Sally Sparrow Spin-off. That would be fun. I see what you mean about the MySpace Post. I guess we’ll have to see.
Michael, those angels were freaky, but well done, but I agree with you about Sally. She did a really good job.
