Reaction Post: 42

Sorry that this reaction post is so late today. I didn’t get to see the episode until *really* late last night. So, here at last is the reaction post for Doctor Who: series 3 episode 7 - 42 (which has nothing to do with the answer to life, the Universe, and everything. Honestly.) My full-fledged review will appear after this episode airs in the U.S. (the series will begin in July.)

Spoiler warning!

I’m thinking that this Reaction Post may be even more random than usual this week. I’ve only had the chance to see the episode once, and I haven’t even seen the Confidential. On top of which, I still seem to be processing it. More frenetic motion than usual, and that’s saying something for Doctor Who. Apart from the obvious Douglas Adams reference that comes to mind, did anyone else think of 24? Just me? Oh, well. What did you lot think?

This episode was a bit Impossible Planet-y, wasn’t it? Sort of the same color scheme and such. There was even had an orange encounter suit. Strangely, when The Doctor sort of took over and started ordering everyone about, it reminded me of Rose in The Satan Pit. You’d think that I’d just associate that with The Doctor, but there you are. There used to be seven members of the crew and two survived. As I recall, three crew members survived The Satan Pit, but they had a much larger crew. Maybe it’s a ratio thing. Which reminds me, what exactly are “Happy Numbers?” I happen to be married to a guy with a degree in theoretical math, and he’s never heard of them. (We did a quick search and discovered that Happy Numbers were discovered fairly recently? (or at least given more attention recently.) Now he is *very* entertained. I sense many number discussions in my future.) I still feel like The Doctor is even more reckless than in series one. This time it was understandable, given the circumstances, but it’s turning out to be a darn good thing that Martha is around. If he keeps going in this fashion, I wonder what Jack’s reaction to it is going to be. Interesting that The Doctor actually admitted being scared.

Martha had another bloke who fancies her. And The Doctor burned like the sun! Amazing about the Sun being alive, by the way. Why do you think that The Doctor was staring off into space at the end before giving Martha the key? I liked the new version of the Superphone. Universal Roaming, eh? I am really starting to get annoyed by Martha’s Mum, though. She’s working with Mr. Saxon. Argh! Good to have her around as a phone-a-friend, however.

Well, that’s all that I can think to say right now. What did I miss?

  1. The Vig Says:

I have to agree, one viewing is not enough. There was so much going on, that I am sure I missed some stuff.

The Doctor should definitely check the scanner before leaving The Tardis. Of course if he did, and relocated The Tardis to a safer part of the ship, the episode would have been over.

  2. Elisa Says:

Well…I suppose that counts as reckless, too. A man only likes trouble when there’s nothing else left, and all that.
