Question: What Song Makes You Think of Doctor Who?

I was listening to the radio in the car the other day, and it occurred to be that there are quite a few songs that make me think of Doctor Who. (It would be helpful if I knew how to make fan videos. Oh well.) It got me to wondering, though. Am I the only crazy person out there who has this reaction? So this week’s question is: What song makes you think of Doctor Who? Any song is fair game, except ones on the soundtrack. Obviously those are going to all remind you of the show. I’d also like to know why, if you don’t mind. The song doesn’t just have to remind you of The Doctor himself. It can be any aspect of the show. As usual, I will offer a few suggestions. Consider yourself limited only by your own creativity. Now, go wander like all good companions…
A Few Songs…
- This Night - Black Lab
- Savin’ Me - Nickelback
- Run - Snow Patrol
- All I Believe In - This Picture
- Holding Out For a Hero - Bonnie Tyler
- I’m With You - Avril LaVigne
- Whisper - Evanescence
- Make This Go On Forever - Snow Patrol
- Sole Survivor - Blue Oyster Cult
- I Do - Anastacia
What song makes me think of Doctor Who? How about every one on the list? I have to chose one? Hmmmmm… Okay, for once I’m going to go with the obvious one. Run by Snow Patrol. It makes me think of all of the partings that The Doctor has endured, but especially the one at the end of series 2. Ah the music video I could make for that song. Now, what about you?
Doctor Who, This Night, Black Lab, Savin’ Me, Nickelback, Run, Snow Patrol, All I Believe In, This Picture, Holding Out For a Hero, Bonnie Tyler, I’m With You, Avril LaVigne, Whisper, Evanescence, Make This Go On Forever, Sole Survivor, Blue Oyster Cult, I Do, Anastacia

Everybody Wants to Rule the World by Tears For Fears
Mostly for the Doctor’s enemies, but there are several lines that apply to the Doctor and his companions. I’ve copied the lyrics below.
Welcome to your life
There’s no turning back
Even while we sleep
We will find you
Acting on your best behavior
Turn your back on mother nature
Everybody wants to rule the world
It’s my own design
It’s my own remorse
Help me to decide
Help me make the most
Of freedom and of pleasure
Nothing ever lasts forever
Everybody wants to rule the world
There’s a room where the light won’t find you
Holding hands while the walls come tumbling down
When they do I’ll be right behind you
So glad we’ve almost made it
So sad they had to fade it
Everybody wants to rule the world
I can’t stand this indecision
Married with a lack of vision
Everybody wants to rule the world
Say that you’ll never never never never need it
One headline why believe it?
Everybody wants to rule the world
All for freedom and for pleasure
Nothing ever lasts forever
Everybody wants to rule the world

I think “Don’t Fear The Reaper” is a good song for series 1’s Father’s day.

Great choice, Debbie!
Oh, The Vig. That just takes me to my happy place. I’d love to see a fan vid of that.

What about With or Without You by U2? I think that would be good for Martha and the Doctor.

I could see the 10th Doctor singing Pink Floyd’s “Coming Back to Life” for Rose, especially the second verse. (lyrics below)
Where were you when I was burned and broken
While the days slipped by from my window watching
Where were you when I was hurt and helpless
Because the things you say and the things you do surround me
While you were hanging yourself on someone else’s words
Dying to believe in what you heard
I was staring straight into the shining sun
Lost in thought and lost in time
While the seeds of life and the seeds of change were planted
Outside the rain fell dark and slow
While I pondered on this dangerous but irresistible pastime
I took a heavenly ride through our silence
I knew the moment had arrived
For killing the past and coming back to life
I took a heavenly ride through our silence
I knew the waiting had begun
And headed straight..into the shining sun

Great song choice!
