Question: Favorite Series 3 Episode?

by Elisa

Hello again. This week I finally get to ask you the question I’ve been waiting months to ask. What is your favorite episode of Doctor Who series three? By this, I mean your favorite overall episode. I will be asking you for your favorite Martha episode and your favorite Doctor episode of the series later. (And quite a few other questions besides, I expect.) Which episode of series three pleased you the most? Which one have you gone back and re-watched the most often? I am including The Runaway Bride among the series three episodes, as it doesn’t really belong in series two…and because I felt like it. So there. I know you need to think about it for a whole, so I’ve included the links to my reviews to help you jog your memory. (Except for Smith and Jones which I will be reviewing on Monday.)

From Christmas to The Year That Never Was:

Personally, I think that I have asked a very difficult question this week. I have enjoyed all of the episodes this season, and there are scenes in each that I have loved. Maybe I should ask for your favorite scene one of these Tuesdays. Anyway, after much deliberation, and in the interest of telling the unvarnished truth, I am going to have to choose Blink. I know that it didn’t have nearly enough of The Doctor in it, but I really feel that it was the best of the series. What else do you expect from a bloke who has won 2 Hugo awards…so far? My second choice is The Shakespeare Code, just for sheer enjoyability. I’ve seen it dozens of times by now. So, there you are. Go ahead and disagree with me. That’s the beauty of series three. It had such a diverse collection of episodes that there’s bound to be one that you adored. Which one was it?

This is a REALLY hard question. Ok, I’d have to go with Blink, but Human Nature and Sound of Drums share a second spot.

  2. Brenna Says:

ohh that is hard, I don’t think I could pick just one, Utopia and Blink are about equal, but I liked all the last three, partly because Jack is just too cool, “-Can’t go in there, we’ll get slaughtered. -Yeah. Happens to me a lot.â€? ^^

    Oh dear,

This is a tough one. I have to go with The Shakespeare Code. I just love how the Doctor gets all furious and menacing when Rose’s name is mentioned.

  4. Caroline Says:

Easy- BLINK was the best all round episode. Great story, good acting, new characters, sillyness, magic of wobbly time….

Second is a tie between Gridlock ( Doctor Lying to martha and then fighting to find his friend, description of Gallifrey, more awesome secondary characters, the death of the Face of Boe) and UTOPIA… ( return of Happy Jack, happy Doctor, Sir Derek Jacoby, the Master, the disapearance of the lovely TARDIS)

I am one of the strange crew who cannot stand the Human Nature and Family of Blood episodes. The only thing I liked was that they explained the chameleon Arch which was then used in Utopia. Oh and Timmy!

  5. Elisa Says:

Wow. We have 2.5 Blinks and a Shakespeare Code. Can it be that many folks agree with me this year? (Yay!)

It *is* hard to choose one. One thing that I have noticed about series 3 is its abundance of good scenes.

  6. Michael Says:

    Human Nature/Family of Blood.

A new classic for the new series and Who as a whole…

  7. Elisa Says:

    Michael, doesn’t Paul Cornell rock?

    Great choice.

  8. Heather C Says:

I would have to say Blink as well. Followed by Human Nature/Family of Blood, and then maybe 42.

  9. Aline Says:

Blink, followed by the last 3 episodes.

  10. lisa-marie Says:

I have got to go with Blink! That one really freaked me out - it was well written, well acted and well … perfect!

  11. Elisa Says:

    Ooo! Three more Blinks.
    People agree with me. Yay!
