Question: Favorite Ninth Doctor Quote?

In honor of the new series starting this week, I’m going back to the beginning of the new Doctor Who and asking What is your favorite quote from The Ninth Doctor? Just Nine himself this time, I’ll get to others for another question. So, there are 13 episodes to choose from, and quite a bit of fab dialog to sort through, so I’ll give you a few suggestions to get you started: (if you need help, you might check out Doctor Who Transcripts.)

  • The “Turn of the Earth” speech from Rose.
  • “Who says I’m not? Red bicycle when you were twelve.” - The Doctor Dances
  • “I could save the world but lose you.” - World War III
  • “Run” - Rose
  • “Fantastic” - Most of the eps.
  • The Pre-regeneration speech “…And you know what? So was I.” - Parting of the Ways
  • “Go to your Room…” - The Doctor Dances
  • “I’ve traveled to all sorts of places. Done things you couldn’t even imagine, but… you two… street corner. Two in the morning. Getting a taxi home. I’ve never had a life like that…” - Father’s Day
  • “…Welcome to the end of the world.” - The End of the World
  • “I love a happy medium.” - The Unquiet Dead

There are so many good quotes to choose from! After much deliberation, I have decided to go with the “Turn of the Earth” speech from Rose. For me, it just really defines who The Doctor is. He’s someone who can feel the turn of the Earth as we fall through space. What about you? What is your favorite Ninth Doctor quote?

  1. The Vig Says:

Agreed, so many good quotes. I like the one about the bicycle, althogh the pre-regeneration speech and the Earth turning speech are, shall I say it … Fantastic.

  2. Elisa Says:

Okay, you can say that just this once. :)

  3. amber Says:

“Go to your room” is always a favorite, but it’s very hard to choose, especially the list that you’ve pulled together.

  4. Elisa Says:

That was a great quote. I loved that bit.

  5. IBF Says:

Oh, but the Daleks and the Cybermen meeting each other for the first time is a whole string of favourite quotes for me in the 10th’s so far.

I said to my partner, the Daleks will win. He goes “How d’ya know?” I just pointed out they have a sense of humour…

CyberLeader: “Daleks be warned. You have declared war upon the Cybermen”.
Dalek Sek: “This is not war. This is pest control.”
CyberLeader: “We have five million Cybermen, how many are you?”
    Dalek Sek: “Four.”
CyberLeader: “You would destroy the Cybermen with four Daleks?”
Dalek Sek: “We would destroy the Cybermen with one Dalek. You are superior in only one respect.”
    CyberLeader: “What is that?”
Dalek Sek: “You are better at dying!”

(and I can’t believe the amount of people who don’t understand why he’s the only one left. Ugh. Noobs.)

  6. Elisa Says:

Yes, IBF, but…I was asking about Ninth Doctor quotes this time. Tenth is for another Question Tuesday (and I love that Cyberman/Dalek bit). Don’t you have *any* fave things that Doctor Number Nine said?

  7. Debbie Says:

It’s gotta be the earth turning speech for me as well

  8. Elisa Says:

Great choice, Deb. Although the 9th Doctor really had me at “Run,” that speech just sold me on the new show. Well, that and The Doctor’s theme.

  9. Angel Says:

“Rose, you were fantastic, and you know what, So was I” Parting of the Ways

    I’ve always loved that quote.

“900 years, and I’ve never been slapped by somebody’s mother”

  10. John Says:

I love the bit in The Doctor Dances, where the Doctors just swapped Jack’s Sonic Blaster for a banana.

The Doctor: Go! Now! Don’t drop the banana!
    Jack: Why not?!
The Doctor: Good source of potassium!

  11. Elisa Says:

    Great choices, Angel and John!
