Question: Favorite Bit of the Doctor Who Mythos?

Doctor Who has been around since 23 November 1963. In the intervening time, a very complex world (well..Universe) has arisen. This week, I ask you: What is your favorite part of the Doctor Who Mythos? Are you taken with the 6th Doctor’s coat? Do you love the red grass of Gallifrey? Do you miss the Eye of Harmony? You may need to think about this one for a moment. I know that I do. So, I offer you some suggestions, but don’t feel tied down by them. It’s good to keep on moving, even if it means wandering off.
Some parts of the Whoniverse:
- Time Lords have a binary vascular system. (One for casual, one for best.)
- The 4th Doctor’s Scarf (A major icon of the show.)
- The TARDIS is stuck as a Police Box (Though it has been an organ and a Grecian Urn.)
- Daleks (Freaky scary pepper pots from the second story ever.)
- Time Lords are telepathic. (Some more so than others…)
- The Sonic Screwdriver (echo reverberate)
- The TARDIS translates (Even French.)
- The Seal of Rassilon (I really need to get that tattoo…)
- The TARDIS itself (It travels in Time *and* Space.)
- Regeneration (One of the most clever ideas in TV ever.)
I had to go and chose the weighty question, didn’t I? *sigh* This is really difficult, as there are so many different aspects of the show that I adore. I really want a working sonic screwdriver and I think that the concept of regeneration is pure genius. However, I have to say that I really love the TARDIS and everything that she does the best. I tried to chose something else, but I knew that I would be lying. How can you beat a vehicle that is alive and so very much bigger on the inside than the outside? That’s my choice. What do you think?
Doctor Who, Time Lord, Daleks, Sonic Screwdriver, Seal of Rassilon, TARDIS

I second the TARDIS. What a great concept, and what an amazing story-telling device! There is literally no limit to where the TARDIS can go, which beats the Stargate (another great story-telling vehicle) all to hell. I love everything that it does, from being bigger on the inside to translating languages, and I love that it’s alive. I also think the fact that the Doctor seems to have a symbiotic relationship with it is really neat. Plus, the Police Box shape and the sound it makes… I was familiar with both long before I was ever a Who fan.
I want a TARDIS. I really, really do.

I love the TARDIS, but to get something different up here, I’ll say The Prydonian College of Gallifrey.

I think the regeneration concept has got to be one of the most original concepts of the show, and the one that enabled the show to bring into the canon the many changes that come with replacing the title character’s actor. Other shows (both contemporary with the early regenerations and recent) have tried to keep continuity despite actor changes by pretending that nothing has changed, but the audience of course knew it quite well. With regeneration the show never had to pretend; it is all part of the lore.
That said, I hope David Tennant stays on for a bit.

Well, we have 2 TARDISes, The Prydonian College, and a Regeneration. Good choices you lot.
