Question: David Tennant for how much longer?

Rumours never seem to stop swirling about how much longer David Tennant will remain as the Doctor. Folks have been hounding the poor man with this question since before he even began the job! So now I asking you lot. How much longer do you think that David Tennant will play The Doctor? Heck, as far as I’m concerned he can stay forever. Series four of Doctor Who will be his third year in the job. What do you think? As per usual, I am including some suggested answers to help get you thinking about this topic.

The 10th Doctor for how much longer?

  • David signed the contract in blood, didn’t you know? He’s to play the Doctor forever.
  • He’ll mysteriously die at the end of this series. The filming of the supposed “Christmas Special” was a ruse.
  • The Doctor will die in one of the gap year specials. Daleks will be blamed.
  • He’ll die in the first episode of series 5, just when everyone is lulled into a false sense of complacency.
  • He’ll make it halfway through series 5 and go on to appear at conventions.
  • The Doctor will regenerate during a guest appearance on the Sarah Jane Adventures.
  • The 2009 Christmas special will be a heartwarming tale of the Doctor regenerating in embarrassing circumstances.
  • Who’s this “10th Doctor” you speak of? The 9th Doctor never left.

Personally, I think that the regeneration will occur partway through series five. Now, I hope that this doesn’t actually happen, as I am now dying to see a full series of Moffat-led Tennant episodes. I mean, seriously. How awesome would that be? I know I asked for 3.5 years, but…that was my minimum request. Yeah. I think he should wait until halfway through series 6.

Hey. I can dream. What is your take on this situation?

  1. Elisa Jenkins Says:

Are you insane, woman?!!! He has to stay for at least ten more years. Who the heck could replace him?

  2. Ben Says:

I think Dylan Moran would make an excellent Doctor.

  3. The Vig Says:

I would love for the 10th incarnation to stay for a long time as well, but I think you are probably right.

The show is definitely going through a slow regeneration as it were with RTD and Julie Gardner leaving, so I would not be surprised if plans are being made for the big change to happen during series 5.

  4. pussreboots Says:

I’m absolutely awful at predicting these sorts of things so I will just wait and see. I will also save up my money and buy all the 10th doctor DVDs and watch them over and over and over. :)

  5. viv Says:

i reckon he will regenerate either in the last episode of series 4 or in one of the specials. i agree with ben - dylan moran would be the best doctor ever! but i would settle for james nesbitt.

  6. Elisa Says:

Elisa, you knew I was crazy, yes?

Ben & viv, I’m not that familiar with Dylan Moran. I’ll have to take your word for it.

    The Vig, yeah.

    Sarah, that’s my plan.

  7. wayne Says:

wel i know the doctor isnt going to regenerate in episode 4 which is good as i think david tennant is the best doctor so far and dont think anyone could replace him

  8. Elisa Says:

wayne, I can’t say that I disagree with you there.

  9. Adele Says:

omg, i wish he’d stay forever!!
hah hes totally the best one and no one could replace him!!
he’s such a great actor, and pretty damn gorgeous.
    perfect!
    =]
like i said, i don’t want him to leave!!!
    x

  10. Elisa Says:

    Adele, totally agree.

  11. HCD Says:

I’d love to see Tennant stay on for a while, after all he did say something about breaking Tom Baker’s record, didn’t he?

I’m plumping for Series 6 or 7, to tell the truth.

  12. Ann Says:

I for my part hope he will stay until we all grow tired of him. Which is so very unlikely that he’ll have to stay forever.

  13. Elisa Says:

HCD & Ann, We can only hope. I’m dying to see what Mr. Moffat will do.

  14. jules annan Says:

great pic i took there although cannot see a credit on it or for that matter i do not remember sending you an invoice for its use

David Tennant leaving Doctor Who?? That cannot happen!!
He is the BEST doctor EVER…
he can stay forever and ever as far as i’m concerned… at the very LEAST 20 years. :)

    Woot for David Tennant

  17. Melanie Says:

oh and i also agree with Adele…
    he is gorguz!!

    sorry girls… but he’s mine. :)
