Hello world!

Welcome to Watching Doctor Who! In this blog I will be discussing everything Doctor Who related, and yes, I mean everything. Classic series, new series, novels, toys, spin-offs, news, character discussions, theories, and even music will grace the posts in this blog. For the record, I will be reviewing the new episodes a day after they appear on the Sci Fi channel in the USA. I feel that this is sort of a median point for viewers, as the entire season will have already played in the UK at that point. Folks who are just starting out with the New Doctor Who on BBC America sometime this month will have access to the series on DVD if they wish to catch up. This is not to say that I may not make cryptic comments about episodes after they have appeared in the UK. I rather suspect that I may not be able to help myself. Who am I? My name is Elisa and I am a Doctor Who fanatic. Seriously. I have every available episode of the series, both classic and new. I have a bookcase dedicated to Doctor Who books. My husband has the Doctor Who theme set as my special ring tone on his cell phone. I can make a grown man’s eyes glaze over by launching into lengthy discussions of regeneration. (And I have. Sorry, Kevin.)
I first encountered Doctor Who in 1987 on a PBS station in Sacramento, CA after a friend spent our entire trip to Ashland, Oregon telling me about the show. Tom Baker was my first Doctor. I promptly dragged my whole family with me into Doctor Who fandom. Touch of Britain, a wonderful local British shop, became my Jelly Baby supplier. I started collecting the episode novelizations. I still have my “Time Lord? t-shirt, and I’m pretty sure I was wearing it the night that the power went out during Adric’s swan song, “Earthshock.? You could have heard the screams of “no!? for blocks. I loved the classic series with its wanderer through time and space. Frankly, I wanted my own TARDIS. When I heard the news that they were bringing back Doctor Who I promptly began surfing the net for any and all news. It only took one episode for me to decide that I was fascinated by this new, darker Doctor. I think I’ve seen “Rose? about one hundred times at this point. So, here I am two seasons later with my own Doctor Who blog. I can hardly believe my luck. Let the discussion begin!

I love the 10th Doctor. 9th is cool, too. From the original series I’m a fan of number 7.

Well, obviously 9 & 10. Classic series? Well, I like 4, 5, and 7 best. I like everyone but 6, actually. Even he has a few good moments. Thanks for stopping by Debbie!

Hi Elisa, nice gig you’ve got here
Well done though, it’s already looking good. As you know I’m a big fan of the new Dr Who. I must admit that’s as far back as my knowledge goes though, was never a fan when younger. Will you be covering spin off series such as Torchwood on here too? I definitely think it’s in your remit and will just add to the plethora of material you have

Yes. I will be covering: K-9 and Company, Doctor Who Confidential, Totally Doctor Who, Torchwood, Torchwood Declassified, The Sarah Jane Adventures, and even that K-9 show that they talked about. Also, heads up! I will be linking to your Torchwood post as part of my Torchwood intro. You did such a good job with the description, you see. Hopefully I will get to that this week.
