Planet of the Dead trailer

Wednesday, April 1st, 2009

It’s finally coming. The next Doctor Who special episode, Planet of the Dead is headed for UK televisions on Easter. I’m not sure when it will finally make it over to the United States, though, as a quick glance over at the Sci Fi Channel’s website didn’t find a date listed for that episode to appear as yet. In any case, here is the trailer to whet your appetite for the special which is now only about a week and a half away. What do you think?

Planet of the Dead:

Personally, I think it looks a bit like I will be spending the episode behind the sofa. Do I want to know where the TARDIS ended up? And where exactly are they? (Apart from Dubai, that is.)

I can’t wait!

Littleradge Does Mr. Blue Sky

Wednesday, March 25th, 2009

One of the songs from yesterday’s Tenth Doctor playlist is Mr. Blue Sky by the Electric Light Orchestra, otherwise known as ELO. Yes, this was played in the Doctor Who series two episode Love & Monsters. So, I figured what better way to follow that up with a fellow who looks like a young David Tennant (and is very tired of hearing about it…Sorry Liam) in a video where he listens to Mr. Blue Sky in a silly fashion on a train? Yep. He’s lip-syncing. I love the way he’s cut the video together.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with Littleradge, he’s a University student in Edinburgh who loves making YouTube videos. So, that means that in addition to looking like David Tennant, he also sounds quite like him. Different region of Scotland, but Scotland nonetheless.

David and Davina do Mastermind

Monday, March 23rd, 2009

On the 2009 Red Nose Day show for Comic Relief, David Tennant and Davina McCall competed in a special celebrity edition of Mastermind. Predictably, Davina “The announcer of Big Brother” McCall opted to answer questions for Big Brother 2000-2009 and David Tennant chose to answer questions about Doctor Who 1963-now. I won’t tell you who wins, but I will say that I was impressed my David’s knowledge of our show (well…except the one about the drink. I can’t believe he missed that one.) He really is “one of us.” Let me just add that I have no desire to ever appear on a game show like that. My brain would go completely blank. What about you lot?

Spoofing Who

Thursday, March 19th, 2009

The first part of this video is a Doctor Who skit that was filmed for the show French and Saunders on 25 January 1987. It features George Layton as The Doctor, and French and Saunders as Silurian guards. It was never transmitted, according to the notes on the video, but it apparently appears as one of the extras packaged with The Curse of Fatal Death spoof written by none other than a certain Steven Moffat. Perhaps you’ve heard of him? Now, if only we could get Dawn French or Jennifer Saunders to play a part on Doctor Who. I bet they’d love it. They’ve made several references to the show in stuff they’ve done over the years after all. Just one thing, though. Do those “pods” in this video look a bit phallic to anyone else? No? Oh. Just me then.

After the French and Saunders skit is a another Doctor Who spoof from Victoria Wood As Seen on TV. This skit was transmitted in 1987, and according to the notes on the video, Jim Broadbent plays The Doctor. If you include his turn as The Doctor in The Curse of Fatal Death, he has played the part in at least two instances. Unfortunately for him, he seems to encounter rather unhelpful energy in both cases. Poor fellow. This spoof is also one of the extras packaged with The Curse of Fatal Death. I really need to get a copy of that DVD.

The Sarah Jane Adventures and Red Nose Day

Monday, March 16th, 2009

While David Tennant was busy with his co-hosting duties for this year’s Red Nose Day, the quick bit of Whoniversal fun for the year came from the Sarah Jane Adventures. First off, here is the Teaser trailer for the mini-episode.

The Sarah Jane Adventures - Red Nose Day Teaser:

To whet your appetite still further, here is the official Behind the Scenes video for the Sarah Jane mini-episode. What does it say about me that I immediately recognized both of the episode’s writers before they were introduced?

And you can watch the special mini-episode of The Sarah Jane Adventures from the Comic Relief Red Nose Day 2009 here. (Sorry, the best copy I could find didn’t allow for embedding. Neither did the other good copies I found. Enjoy anyway!)

A Taste of Red Nose Day 2009

Sunday, March 15th, 2009

As you may recall, David Tennant and Davina McCall were to share host duties for this year’s Red Nose Day in support of Comic Relief. And indeed, they did. So perhaps it isn’t too surprising that at one point Davina decided to ask David a question that many of us would have asked in her place. Yes, she asked him for a kiss. In the interest of raising money for charity, David agreed. Davina’s donation was then doubled when she took things a bit farther. All I have to say is…nice dip there, David.

David Tennant Kisses Davina McCall - Red Nose Day 2009:

What do you think of David’s white suit? I think he looks pretty good. Davina’s dress was a lovely shade of red. I don’t think that I could manage to get away with the dress itself. Ah well.

Behinds the Scenes in Series Three

Monday, March 9th, 2009

This looks to be one of David Tennant’s behind the scenes video diaries from Doctor Who series three. What can I say? It was amusing, so I had to share it with you all. You know how it is.

David Tennant and John Simm behind the scenes:

So, what did you think? The whole bit about the glue still being on the back of David’s hands made my skin itch a bit. What about you? Poor John Simm had a cold while they were filming? I couldn’t tell. Good job with the acting there, John. Here we see why I didn’t take that up professionally. I just can’t ignore being sick. That and I’d probably get all claustrophobic in prosthetics. The flying thing looks kind of fun, though.

Gareth, Kai, And a Surprise Guest

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

(My laptop seems to be behaving so far today. Please keep your fingers crossed for me. )

Today’s offering is the videos of the Friday Q&A at Gallifrey One featuring Gareth David-Lloyd, Kai Owen, and surprise guest Naoko Mori. I’m not sure why part one is no longer available, but the other parts remain intact. YouTube maintains it’s gone, and that’s that. So, I’m starting this with part two and linking the other parts below as usual. Enjoy!

Torchwood GARETH DAVID-LLOYD & KAI OWEN Friday Q&A 2:

Part 3
Part 4
Part 5
Part 6
Part 7

My random observations on the videos:

So, what did you think? One thing that struck me during several of the panels was the relaxed atmosphere about drinking alcohol right there while talking. You saw our lads in the video having a sip or two. I guess that I’m just not used to it. How cool was it that Naoko popped in to say hello? Too bad that she couldn’t have been around for more of the con. *sniffle* Perhaps next year the planets will align properly? Let’s hope so. Meanwhile, all these hints about series three being “dark” are making me a bit nervous. How dark are we talking here? On a more personal note, am I alone in thinking that Kai Owen is like a big teddy bear? He seems like an absolute sweetheart. Gareth obviously puts a great deal of thought into his character, which we knew just watching the show, but it’s nice to hear him talking about the thought processes involved.

I hope that all three of these folks come back to another Gallifrey One very soon.

Before My Laptop Freezes Again…

Wednesday, February 25th, 2009

Before my laptop freezes up again, like it did a few minutes ago, here are a few more bits and pieces I’ve got lurking in my tabs. Let’s get to it!

First up, here’s a bit from “torchwoodbbcamerica,” who brings us a moment with Euros Lyn, director extraordinaire of Torchwood series 3 among other things, and Eve Myles (Gwen) from behind the scenes at New York Comic Con 2009.

Eve Myles and Euros Lyn backstage @ New York Comic Con ‘09:

Lindsay Duncan, who is soon to play Margaret Thatcher on the BBC, will appear in the second Doctor Who special. Lindsay has done everything from classics like Mansfield Park to a droid’s voice in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. I’ll be interested to see what sort of character she ends up playing.

According to SciFi Wire, a Doctor Who one-shot comic book came out today. It’s called “The Whispering Gallery” and features The Doctor and Martha. Has anyone seen it yet? It sounds like it’s quite the story.

So there I was, minding my own business, watching the Super Bowl with my husband and this advertisement came on. I must admit that I was paying attention to something else, and then I heard Christopher Eccleston’s voice and I fell over. (I then commandeered the Tivo remote and watched it again.) Here it is, the official trailer for G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra. Yes, I will be seeing this movie.

…But does the quilt travel in time?

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

(It turns out that I’ve been collecting odds and ends of news and coolness in my Firefox tags since before I left for Gallifrey One. So, here they are all gathered together for you.)

I’ve got two word for you all: TARDIS quilt! My Mum has gotten very into quilting since she’s retired, and in surfing around quilting sites she discovered this quilt. She has now added my request for a TARDIS quilt of my own to her growing queue. I rather think I will remain at the end for a while, but I don’t mind. I can wait, albeit impatiently.

There’s a rumour going around that Robert Mugabe, the President of Zimbabwe, might have some of the lost episodes of Doctor Who in his possession. Any Doctor Who fans out there in Zimbabwe who are willing to infiltrate the Presidential tape vault? Anyone?

In an interview on the official BBC Doctor Who site, Matt Smith admits to liking long coats and “rather dashing scarves.” Perhaps this will influence his outfit as the Doctor? He’s apparently deep in the thick of things now. I, for one, am dead curious to see what they come up with for both the costume and the character.

The first of the Doctor Who tenth Doctor special episodes, Planet of the Dead, is using Dubai, of all places, as one of its filming locations. I heard that they had trouble with one of their doubledecker buses in the process. In any case, for a tiny bit of information and five interesting photographs of filming (one of which is now my desktop background) go here.

And finally, I offer you a most amazing video as sent to me by Paul of Toybender.com (which I subsequently watched on Topless Robot.) Have you ever asked yourself what a Doctor Who Anime might look like? OtaKing77077 is working on the answer to that question. In the meantime, he offers the world a bit of the work in progress. Fans of the third Doctor may now rejoice.

A Couple of Silly Videos from Gallifrey One

Thursday, February 19th, 2009

The other day, someone told me about a video of a dancing TARDIS at Gallifrey One. (I’m sorry, I forget who sent me the link. Was it you, Gillian? Or perhaps The Vig?) Said TARDIS is dancing in front of the rather more stationary TARDIS that I spent the entire weekend trying to get a picture in front of, to no avail. It seems to have been booked solid with cosplayers. I must add here how nice it was to have people dressing up this year. Two years ago there were almost no cosplayers. Last year there were a few more with the notable addition of the Torchwood gals. This year? A freakin’ dancing TARDIS! For the record, I also saw a lady in a TARDIS dress. Another one in a slightly different TARDIS dress, and one person with a TARDIS tote bag. Quite the year for TARDISes, yeah?

A Dancing TARDIS:

Now, having seen the TARDIS dancing, you may be asking yourself, “was there some reason for the TARDIS costume, or was it merely a product of fun and whimsy?” Well, thanks to “aimeekitty” I can answer that question. The dancing TARDIS was at Gallifrey One to be in a skit, or rather, a Doctor Whosical. Keep your eyes open for Captain Jack dancing. He looks like he’s having a really good time.

Doctor Whosical:

Sigh. Here we see another reason that I need to stay at the hotel next year. I really want to see the Masquerade, among other things. Right, then. I’m off to ponder my costuming ideas for next year. Enjoy the videos.

Gareth David-Lloyd at Gallifrey One 20

Tuesday, February 17th, 2009

For those of you who couldn’t come to Gallifrey One (and those of you who went and want to see it again) here is Gareth David-Lloyd being interviewed by Toby Hadoke (of “Moths Ate My Doctor Who Scarf” fame.) For the record, I’m pretty sure that you get a good view of the back of my head in the beginning of the first part of the video, and bits of said hair periodically throughout. Stand by for information about Gareth’s childhood, his hope that Ianto can play the trumpet at some point, and his desire to dress as a Predator for a con.

Psst! Did you know that Ianto Jones was originally called Idris Hopper? How about the fact that Gareth has previously played a character called Yanto Jones? Watch the videos for more in-depth info of this sort,

Torchwood: Children of Earth

Thursday, February 5th, 2009

According to BBC America…

“Torchwood: Children of Earth - In one epic story told over five nights the new series, to be broadcast on BBC One (UK) and BBC AMERICA (U.S.) later this year, promises to be Torchwood’s greatest adrenalin-fueled, high octane adventure yet.”

Here’s the official trailer. What do you think?

Torchwood: [tag]Children of Earth[/tag Official Trailer:

I must admit that I was rather worried about this mini-series up to this point. Why? I’m not really sure, but after the ending of series two I’ve gotten a bit more timid I suppose. I want to enjoy the show without being afraid that we’ll lose one of our remaining three folks. I like Gwen, Ianto, and Jack. I’d prefer that they save the day without dying (permanently) darn it.

Now that I’ve seen this video, though, I’m feeling a lot better. It looks like Jack’s immortality might be coming in handy again. Ianto is there with his fabulous quips. (And…what happened to his cheek?) The plot intrigues me. This has happened before, eh? Who’s trying to take out our crew? Where’s Myfanwy in all of this? Who’s after the children?

I can’t wait!

Public Service Message and a Bit O News

Wednesday, February 4th, 2009

Littleradge over at YouTube posted this video today to remind folks that David Tennant does not use social networking sites. Apparently, now amongst the random folks that create accounts pretending to be Mr. Tennant there is someone who has been striking up conversations with people and then asking them to meet him somewhere. Pretty scary, eh? Be careful out there.

David Tennant On The Internet:

In Other News:

This Thursday, the trailer for Torchwood’s third series Children of Earth will premiere in both the US and the UK, according to several places including BBCAmerica. And…I suppose they’d know. I’ve heard that the BBC Torchwood site says something similar, but I can’t verify that as I can’t see the news on their site. If you are in the U.S., go to the BBCAmerica Torchwood site on Thursday, February 5th at 4:00 pm to view the trailer.

The Daily Mail’s website is running an article about Peter Davison including what he’s been up to lately. It also touches on the relationship between Peter’s daughter Georgia and a certain David Tennant.

From the rumour desk we have the story that the baddies that the Doctor will be encountering in the first of the Doctor Who specials will be half-man, half-fly creatures called the Tritovores. Nothing official has been announced at this time, so decide for yourself if you are going to believe the current rumour.

And finally, as if David Tennant weren’t busy enough, what with filming the Doctor Who specials, etc. it looks like he’ll be hosting Red Nose Day this time around. I wonder if he’ll be participating in any skits. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

Doctor Who and Call Centers

Monday, February 2nd, 2009

I don’t know about you folks, but lately I’ve had a need for a good giggle, or outright guffaw. I’m sure that I’m not alone in this, the way things have been going. Imagine my delight, then, when I discovered not only one, but two funny Doctor Who-related call center themed videos while hanging out over at YouTube this weekend.

This first video takes some footage from the end of Doctor Who series two and replaces the soundtrack with hilarious results. “Ashens” gives us a Dalek attempting to renew his house insurance. The voice synthesizers that he used are really quite spot on. I wish I knew how he did it.

Cybermen Call Center:

This one looks like an official commercial of some sort, but it repeats twice for some reason. If you look carefully, you will see an old-style Cyberman in the background. I love that this is labeled “An Average Call Center.” Would that be what the Daleks are doing when they aren’t working on Doctor Who?
