Whoniversal News

masterautonweta.jpg

Have you seen the new range of high end Doctor Who collectibles from Weta? The image above is only one of them. The Dark Horse preview catalog says that this statue of The Master and an Auton will be available on 28 May for $280. Now we all merely need to win the lottery.

IDW Publishing finally has #1 of their long awaited new Doctor Who comic book available. (For folks in the USA and Canada.) Their Doctor Who Classics comic book, which features the fourth Doctor, has made it to #3 of its run. Now I need to call my local comic shop. (The one that told me they didn’t know when the new series comic was coming out. *ahem*)

11 March is John Barrowman’s birthday! According to his website, instead of sending cards, etc., he would like folks to give to DogsTrust, his favorite charity. So, there you go. Happy early birthday, Mr. Barrowman!

And speaking of dogs, Mr. Barrowman was on hand recently to officially open a new kennel block for the Cardiff Dogs Home. While he was there, he adopted a young Jack Russell Terrier and named it…Captain Jack! (All together now: Awwww!)

In other John Barrowman news, apparently he will be returning to the Pantomine stage at the end of the year. This time around he will be playing Robin Hood at the Birmingham Hippodrome. This makes me curious to see who will be playing Maid Marian and the Merry Men. Now, if only I could get over there to see this.

Now that Billie Piper has married Laurence Fox, she’s reportedly talking about adopting a baby. They both come from decent-sized families, so it would seem that she would like to start a family of her own. Makes sense to me. (Also, the couple is reported to have gotten tattoos while on their honeymoon.)

The Royal Television Society has announced it nominations for its upcoming awards ceremony. Among the nominees are David Tennant (Actor - Male), Sarah Jane Adventures (Children’s Drama), and Doctor Who (Drama Series). We’ll know the results on 19 March. Keep your fingers crossed, folks!

And finally, Digital Spy is reporting that The Sarah Jane Adventures has been commissioned for a second series. Not too surprising if it’s being nominated for awards.

Question: What do you want for Chrismahanukwanzica?

Tuesday, December 11th, 2007

christmasinvasion1.jpg

Hanukkah is nearly over. Christmas is on its way (and with it, Voyage of the Damned.) The Solstice will be here a few days sooner. No matter which holiday you celebrate this time of year, you are going to spend time shopping for presents. What Doctor Who-related gift are you hoping to receive? Will it be toys? Are you waiting on a special book? Is someone knitting you a scarf? Let us know! As usual, I will include some suggestions to get you started.

Shopping Suggestions:

Surprise! I actually want everything on this list. (Psst! Honey! *points at list*) Anyway, if I had to narrow down my choices to one, I’d have to go with the Radio-controlled Dalek. I have wanted one of those for a really long time. I already have some Who-related shirts (for all that I drool over some of the stuff on Cafe Press) and I’ll make myself a scarf at some point here. A radio-controlled Dalek is just plain cool. So there.

Well, what are you waiting for? What Doctor Who-related item do you want for your holiday gift?

Some New Doctor Who Tie-ins

Thursday, August 23rd, 2007

judoon.jpg

There are all sorts of new Doctor Who Tie-ins coming out these days. Some are strange, some entertaining, and some are dead useful. Take the Judoon Scanner UV Pen and Light (pictured above) for example. It would be very handy to have one of these with you if you ever encountered a platoon of Judoon. You could pre-mark yourself and everything!

Did you know that pretty much every character from the modern version of the show has their own action figure? Well, if they don’t yet, it’s coming soon. Seriously. Theres a 12″ Dalek Sec Hybrid, a 12″ Novice Hame, a 5″ Doctor Constantine, a 5″ Gelth Zombie, a 5″ Brannigan, Evil Toby, and even Grandma Connolly and The Wire (though…wasn’t that Mrs. Connolly’s mother? I think they’ve got the wrong name there.) Not to mention Martha, The Doctor, and The TARDIS. See what I mean?

In the Okay-I-Wasn’t-Expecting-That Department, I offer you Advent calendars. Your choice - Dalek or Cyberman. (There are also normal calendars - David Tennant and Doctor Who.) Or, how about the TARDIS Ice Bucket.

I’ve found Boxer Shorts with David Tennant on them. Still not the infamous Y-fronts…but getting closer.

Personally, I want the 10th Doctor Stand-up (but I’d need to find someplace selling it in the USA), the Doctor Who Trivia Game, and a You Never Forget Your First Doctor T-shirt.

And finally, because I know The Vig has been looking for this, the Sonic Screwdriver and Psychic Paper set.

Well, I hope you’ve enjoyed your Doctor Who Stuff update. Happy Shopping!

Review: Sonic Screwdrivers

Okay, the secret is finally out. I got my husband a Sonic Screwdriver for Christmas. (His is on the left hand side of this blog post.) I also got one for myself (I know, you are not surprised). Not the same one, mind you. Mine is a flashlight. (Mine appears on the right hand side of this post.) His is much larger and makes the “Sonic Screwdriver” noise. It also contains a UV light and a pen. Apparently you can write secret messages with it. It also has a column that extends like the on-screen prop. It has a tiny bit of actual weight to it. Most importantly, it will give him something to compare against for the Sonic Screwdriver that he is building. Knowing him, it might actually work when he is done. My version of the Sonic Screwdriver is just a flashlight that gives off blue light. It contains no sound effects, and looks to be approximately two inches shorter than the other one. It’s nothing fancy, just a flashlight, but it looks cool. (I have this thing about flashlights…I sort of collect them.) Both of these versions of The Doctor’s favorite tool are quite satisfactory. I recommend them. I’m having a good Christmas so far…and Christmas isn’t even until Monday.

Captain Jack: The Action Figure

Saturday, December 16th, 2006

jackfigure.jpg

Still looking for that perfect Doctor Who Christmas present? Why not try a Captain Jack Harkness action figure? John Barrowman would be glad to point you in the right direction. Over on his website, he has a page devoted to helping you find the elusive Captain Jack action figure. I wonder if a Torchwood version will appear at some point? I think it would be fun to see the action figure version of Captain Jack’s coat. In fact, this figure looks a bit strange without it. Oh, well. At least he got to be an action figure. I have yet to see a Mickey one.

New Action Figures Coming Soon

Thursday, December 7th, 2006

slitheenandpig.jpg

There are some new Doctor Who action figures coming available on Valentine’s Day 2007. I suppose that they could be a good present for your favorite Doctor Who fan. (I’m not sure how romantic that would be for anyone other than me, though.) The Doctor Who 2007 Wave 1 figures are:

An Auton Double Pack including two of the male Autons from “Rose.”

Captain Jack & The Empty Child as seen in “The Empty Child” & “The Doctor Dances.”

A Gold Dalek & Mutant Reveal…I’m guessing that the Dalek opens on this one…it’s hard to tell from the listing.

Rose and two Robot Spiders as seen in “The End of The World.”

Slitheen & Space Pig (pictured above) A member of the Slitheen family and the Space Pig from “Aliens of London” & “World War Three.”

Coming available at the same time is a 12″ Clockwork Droid with a removable mask.

So, there’s your toy update. Start your Valentine’s Day planning now.

I Got Toys!

Saturday, November 18th, 2006

rosedollsmall.jpg

I gave in and ordered some things from forbiddenplanet.co.uk a couple of weeks ago, and the first box arrived Thursday. I had been looking for a Rose action figure for a while, and I wasn’t willing to wait until Gallifrey One in February to see if I could get one there. I ended up going with the season 2 Rose that comes with shorter hair and the shirt from the episode “New Earth.” She also comes with her own K-9 that has “Pull Back & Go” motion. (My cats are going to think that I got K-9 for them. Sigh.) As you can see in the picture, the likeness isn’t too bad for either character. K-9’s side panel even comes off to reveal his inner workings like in the episode “School Reunion.” This K-9 appears to be the newer version, though. No rust on the action figure’s paint job. Now, all I need are a sonic screwdriver and a radio-controlled dalek. I’ve always wanted my own dalek. Yes, I know. After Christmas. I’m not allowed to buy anything else for myself until after Christmas. (Who knows, maybe I’ll get more toys for Christmas. But where to put them?)
