Debunking Rumors
Wednesday, January 10th, 2007![]()
Oh, my heavens the Doctor Who rumors that are going around right now. I wasn’t even going to dignify these rumors with a discussion, but now that I have received no less than three panicked e-mails on the subject, I suppose that I’d better say something. There are rumors going around currently that:
1) David Tennant will be quitting Doctor Who halfway through series four.
And
2) The new Doctor will then be Jason Statham, who will bring more “gangland” to the role (as well as more sex appeal and danger??).
Okay. In reference to rumor number one, no less authority then David Tennant’s father has been quoted as saying, “Not everything you read is the gospel truth and it’s wrong for anyone to say David has decided to quit as Doctor Who.” The BBC pointed out that David is still filming series three currently, and a fourth series hasn’t even been commissioned yet. When it is commissioned, they say that they will be able to confirm his involvement. So, really, if you kill rumor number one, it kind of negates number two, doesn’t it? Even if David Tennant did decide to leave during season four, can you really see Russell T. Davies choosing a “gangland” Doctor? Remember that there are generally at least five rumored “New Doctors” before the real one is revealed. Please remember that David is a Doctor Who geek, just like us, and that this is his dream role. Everyone feel better now?
