Showtimes Here and There

newearth1.jpg

Well, there’s a Sci Fi Channel Marathon today if y’all are interested…and in the USA. Idiot’s Lantern is included. Yay! I love that episode. Yes, I do have the DVDs, but it’s the principle of the thing. In any case, welcome to this week’s compiled showtimes for the shows of the Whoniverse playing in the US and UK. There’s still a lot of Torchwood this week. I hope that you all are enjoying the show. Sarah Jane continues doing her thing in the UK. I’m not holding my breath in hopes that the Sarah Jane Adventures are coming to the USA, but I will ask for that for Christmas. Who knows? Oh, and BBCAmerica? I could suggest a few other episodes you might think of showing a billion times instead of Love and Monsters. I’m just sayin’…

On Monday I will actually be reviewing part 2 of the Classic Doctor Who of An Unearthly Child. I hope that you enjoy this dip into the beginning of the show. I will move on to Torchwood or Sarah Jane once I have reviewed all four episodes of that story.

As usual, please remember to check your local listings to confirm episode play times as time zones may vary. Have a great weekend!

Well, at least The Impossible Planet is playing several this week. I like that episode of Doctor Who, but I’m wondering why they aren’t playing The Satan Pit, too. In any case, welcome to this week’s compiled showtimes for the shows of the Whoniverse playing in the US and UK. There’s still a lot of Torchwood this week. I hope that you all are enjoying the show. Sarah Jane is still doing her thing in the UK. Really…it’s a lot like last week.

Behind the Scenes with John Barrowman

Wednesday, October 24th, 2007

jack6.jpg

First, there was the new Doctor Who. Next came Doctor Who Confidential, the behind the scenes informational show that tells you all sorts of things about different aspects of our favorite show. Not too long afterwards, Totally Doctor Who appeared. Totally Doctor Who is more of a kid-targeted version of Doctor Who Confidential, that has not yet been shown in the US. They have special guests, run entertaining contests and competitions, and have special access to the filming of Doctor Who. Their studio is right next door to the Doctor Who studio, as we learned in the second series of the show. That must come in handy with everyone’s schedule being so tight. (If you would like to see more of Totally Doctor Who, you might do a search on YouTube. They’ve been known to have an episode or two. I’m just saying…)

In the video I have for you this week, you get to spend some time on the set with Captain Jack Harkness. During the filming of “The Sound of Drums” Totally Doctor Who got to follow John Barrowman around for the day. (Excuse me, but where do I sign up for that job?) He showed off his trailer, did a bit of filming, and chatted with the Totally Doctor Who camera. Neither of the presenters were on the scene as far as I could tell, but it’s a nice little peek into the sorts of things that go on behind the scenes. After the section with John, the video goes on to show the “Sneak Peek” at “Last of the Time Lords.” Enjoy!

The Sarah Jane Adventures

Wednesday, September 19th, 2007

sja_promo.jpg

Are you ready for The Sarah Jane Adventures? The series is all set to begin Monday 24 September on BBC1 at 5:00pm. I can’t wait for this spin-off to get into full swing. You can play on the official Sarah Jane Adventures website while you wait, or read an article where RTD talks about SJA.

To help out those of you who are interested in the show, but, for whatever reason, haven’t been able to see the commercials for it, I offer the trailer. Looks like fun!

Now, as many of you know, the pilot for The Sarah Jane Adventures has already shown, and was called: Invasion of the Bane. If you happened to miss it, you may wish to follow these links. *ahem*

Do you think that the folks on this side of the pond will fall in love with Captain Jack and his crew of alien hunters? Here is my review of Everything Changes, if you are interested. Let’s hope that John Barrowman and company take the USA by storm!

BBCAmerica Launches Torchwood Website!

Wednesday, August 22nd, 2007

torchwood.jpg

BBCAmerica has finally launched their Torchwood web site. Yes! For those of you with the slower connections, I should warn you that the site is quite graphics intensive. They’re offering episode lists, show information, a forum, and more. Check it out! I figured that you all would like to know.

Torchwood Coming To BBC America!

Monday, April 2nd, 2007

torchwoodteam.jpg

You read that right folks. Torchwood is coming to BBC Americaaccording to them. Apparently, the whole channel is undergoing a radical makeover (which may explain why I was able to find Doctor Who listings for the end of the month today. Normally, they don’t have listings that far ahead.) Torchwood is slated to be part of their “Supernatural Saturday” prime-time line up (as are “new episodes” Doctor Who). No exact dates as yet, only “later this year.” So…it looks like my New Year’s Wish is coming true. Yes! I’ll let you know anything more that I discover. Hopefully the dates will be posted soon.

Question: Who Else Deserves a Spin-off?

Tuesday, February 27th, 2007

doctor4andromana21.jpg

This week I am pondering spin-offs. There are already a few of them, as you have doubtless noticed, but who else do you think should have their own spin-off? Throughout the years all sorts of characters have some and gone in the Doctor Who Universe. Some of these characters were more interesting than others. Did you ever wonder what happened to them once they left the series? Did you wonder what happened to Turlough back on Trion? Or did you ponder the fate of Nancy after she got her son back? Sarah Jane, K-9, and Captain Jack got their spin-offs, who else do you think deserved their own show? As there are so many options, I’m going to leave this one wide open, so no list this week.

Who would I choose? Well, as much as I would have liked to see Rose Tyler, Defender of the Earth, she’s going to have to take second place this time. I think that Romana deserved her own spin-off. I’m curious to know what happened to her after she left The Doctor to help the Tharils. I have no Idea what I’d call the show, though. Or rather, I have ideas…but they’re dumb. Okay…your turn.

Everything Changes - Episode 1.1

This has taken me a while to write, but at last, here is my first Torchwood review. As Torchwood is still only being shown in the UK, as far as I have been able to determine, I will make all efforts to keep spoilers behind “read more” tags. That being said, if you are interested in spoilers…read on!

Spin-off: Torchwood

Wednesday, November 15th, 2006

torchwood.jpg

Torchwood is a gritty, Cardiff-based spin-off from Doctor Who that is currently appearing on BBC3 on Sunday nights. Captain Jack Harkness, companion from the last five episodes of Doctor Who season one, is the leader of Torchwood: Cardiff. Naoko Mori who appeared as Doctor Sato in the Doctor Who episode “Aliens of London” is Toshiko Sato on Torchwood. Is she the same character? I’m not sure yet. Another familiar face is Eve Myles who played Gwyneth in “The Unquiet Dead.” On Torchwood, she plays Gwen Cooper, the character who stumbles across Torchwood in episode one. I wonder if we will eventually discover that there is a reason their names are so similar. I hope so. That would be interesting. Now, I was going to do a really indepth introduction to this show, but DaveP over at Pop Buzz UK did such a good job with his post on the show - Torchwood, that it hardly seemed necessary. Don’t worry, I’ll be posting mysterious tidbits about the episodes as time permits.

At this point, there have been five episodes of Torchwood aired in the UK. I liked the first four episodes, but the fifth one made me crazy. I liked the idea, but…well…plot holes. Maybe I just missed something the first time through. The sixth one promises to be quite gory. I guess we’ll find out next Sunday, eh? Sadly, the official Torchwood website is really not friendly to anyone outside the UK. So, if you would like more information, here are some suggestions: The Institute, The Torchwood System Interface, Torchwood.tv, and there are a couple of podcasts out there called “TWO Torchcast” and “Torchpod.”

Spin-offs, Look-alikes, and Informational Programs

Tuesday, November 14th, 2006

k9asmall.jpg

I’m working on a big list of Doctor Who-related programs, mostly so I can work my way through them and talk about them here. I thought that y’all might enjoy having the information, and perhaps you can tell me about anything that I may have missed. FYI, Look-alikes tend to be similar shows with Doctor Who actors in them. In addition to these programs there are many original novels, audio adventures, and even a couple of magazines. I’m not going to run out of material for a very, very long time. Good to know. So, here’s the list so far:

Doctor Who: Spin-offs, Look-alikes, and Informational Programs

  • Airzone Solution (Look-alike)
  • Auton series (Look-alike)
  • The Curse of Fatal Death (Spoof)
  • Daleks’ Invasion Earth: 2150 A.D. (Film, 1966)
  • Doctor Who and the Daleks (Film, 1965)
  • Doctor Who Confidential (Informational)
  • Doctor Who: Scream of Shalka (Online Cartoon)

  • Sarah Jane Adventures (Spin-off)

  • Torchwood (Spin-off)
  • Torchwood Declassified (Spin-off/Informational)
  • Totally Doctor Who (Informational)
