State of the Who and The Trailer for Journey’s End

Tuesday, July 1st, 2008

Okay. At this point this is where we all stand in the series:

Australia: The folks in Oz have finally seen Voyage of the Damned. Partners in Crime will appear on Sunday 6 July.

USA: series four, episode 10: Midnight will not make it to US screens until 11 July for some reason. I mean, another TV channel is celebrating independence day with Harry Potter. I don’t see why the Sci Fi Channel couldn’t celebrate with Doctor Who instead of the Twilight Zone. I’m just sayin’…

UK: The final episode of series four (Journey’s End) taunts us all from Saturday. Remember that it will have a special running length of sixty-five minutes. There was no next week preview at the end of The Stolen Earth, but a preview was posted on the official site. As per usual, that preview has now made its way to Youtube, so I am including it here. By its very nature it is extremely spoilery. Watch at your own risk. Oh. But before you ask, no. It doesn’t answer that question. We’ll all just have to wait together to find out how that particular event turns out.

…And Yet More News

Thursday, June 12th, 2008

david-tennanthamletpic.jpg

The RSC website says that David Tennant’s Hamlet will be in London’s Novello Theatre from 3 December 2008 to 10 January 2009. So…if you are going to be in the area at that point, you may wish to get a ticket.

The Gallifrey One News Page is reporting that the 2007 Doctor Who Christmas special, Voyage of the Damned will finally be airing in Australia on my anniversary, 29 June. Partners in Crime will follow on 6 July and be accompanied by the cut down version of Doctor Who Confidential. There you are folks! Your happy dance may begin now.

The Tenth Doctor has made a cameo appearance in Tom Tomorrow’s political cartoon This Modern World over at Salon.com. (Normally I wouldn’t link to anything political, but the panel with the Doctor in it is humorous. The cartoon is pro-liberal, if you care.)

…And Finally, the word raging about the ‘net is that episode 12 of Doctor Who series four finally has a name. It is…

Torchwood Series Three News

Monday, June 2nd, 2008

torchwood_cast2.jpg

As was suggested in a recent interview with Eve Myles (that I can’t find the link to, sorry), it has now been revealed that series three of Torchwood will not be the usual 13 episodes long. During 2009, the same year containing the Doctor Who drought broken only the four special episodes, Torchwood will consist of one five episode long story arc. It looks like said episodes will take place during one week? (Well, at least that’s what TV Guide is saying.) So, that only leaves The Sarah Jane Adventures in 2009, unless its second series suddenly materializes later this year instead. (I still haven’t heard when to expect series two for The Sarah Jane Adventures.)

So, right now I guess that this is what we are looking at:
Torchwood: First, there will be the Radio play this Summer (which is rumoured to include Martha), then next year we will have one five episode story arc.

Doctor Who: We still have the rest of series four to get through. Then, Christmas episode 2008. 2009 will bring us three specials, and, we assume, Christmas episode 2009. Come 2010 we will have all thirteen episodes of series five, as helmed by new Head Writer Steven Moffat.

The Sarah Jane Adventures: Last I heard, series two was being filmed and there is a rumour going around that The Doctor will make an appearance. (There is also a rumour about a new “companion.”) No word yet as to when the second series might air.

I have no idea how all this will translate as far as the U.S. is concerned. But, there you are. The news as I currently understand it.

Where Are We Now?

Friday, May 16th, 2008

sontaranstratagem.jpg

The BBC is reporting that, just like last year, there will be a one week pause in the flow of Doctor Who to make way for the Eurovison Song Contest. So, this seemed to me like a good point to take stock and see where we all are in the Whoniverse.

The Sarah Jane Adventures:

(For series two rumors and very exact listings of the cuts in the US version of SJA, you may wish to keep an eye on Sarah Jane.tv.)

UK: Series 2 hasn’t begun yet, but there is a rumour that the Doctor will make an appearance in the show this series.
US: Series 1 is almost done. On 16 May, SciFi showed The first half of the last story “The Lost Boy.” The final episode of the series will be shown on 30 May 2008. Yes. You have to wait a whole extra week to find out what happens.

Doctor Who:

UK: The Unicorn and The Wasp (episode 7) will appear as per usual on 17 May 2008. The following week will see The Eurovison Song Contest on on 24 May. Then we can finally see the first half of Steven Moffat’s two-parter (Silence In The Library) on 31 May.
US: Guess what? The US has a gap week, too! On 16 May the Sci Fi Channel showed The Sontaran Stratagem (episode 4), but the second half of the two-parter (The Poison Sky) won’t appear until 30 May.

Torchwood:

US & UK: Series 2 is done, and we’ve heard no official word about when Series 3 might begin. There is, however, a special audio adventure coming up on Radio 4 (sometime in June or July last I heard.)

You are officially up to date.

A Quick State of the Whoniverse Update

Wednesday, April 9th, 2008

worldwariii.jpg

Hello all. It occurred to me that things might be a little bit confusing in the Whoniverse at present considering the difference in premiere dates, etc. between the US and UK. There’s also the fact that we are trying to keep track of three shows at this point. So, here is a quick State of the Whoniverse checkup.

Doctor Who:

UK - Series 4 began on 5 April with Partners in Crime.

US - 18 April will see Voyage of the Damned premiere on the SciFi Channel. Partners in Crime is scheduled to follow on 25 April.

Australia - I hear that they are still waiting for the Christmas Episode.

Torchwood:

UK - Series two ended on 4 April. There are already rumours about series three, but nothing official.

US - It looks like episode 12 will be playing this Saturday on BBCAmerica, with the final episode following on the 19th.

The Sarah Jane Adventures:

UK - Series one is complete, and I hear that they are working on series 2, but no word as to when it will begin.

US - Series one will begin with Invasion of the Bane on 11 April on the SciFi Channel.

And that’s where we stand at this point. Anyone have the Torchwood or SJA information for Australia?

News of the Who and Such

Friday, March 14th, 2008

sarahjaneadventures.jpg

The Sarah Jane Adventures will premiere in the USA on Friday, 11 April 2008 at 8pm (7 Central) on the SciFi Channel!

Series four of Doctor Who will begin in the USA on the SciFi Channel on 18 April 2008, according to the schedulebot. Still no official word on the UK premiere, as the official site still says “Spring 2008.” (The internet rumours still say sometime around Easter…which is coming up soon.)

The Torchwood Archives by Gary Russell is now listed over at Amazon.co.uk. No word yet as to when it will actually be available, but you can pre-order it already. Yay for the official book! Yet another thing to add to my want list.

The eagle-eyed Gillian from Food History passed along an amusing little article that she found online. It purports to be an early rehearsal from David Tennant’s run as Hamlet. It doesn’t matter either way, as “Doctor Who and the moody Dane” will give any Shakespeare fan a good giggle. Thanks for the link, Gillian!

In a recent SFX magazine article, Russell T. Davies said that Doctor Who was on the twenty year plan, and that this upcoming gap year was planned from the start. (Digital Spy quotes some of the article here.) Hey, I could go for twenty years of Who. Here’s hoping.

A Few Showtimes…

Friday, November 23rd, 2007

toothandclaw2.jpg

Sorry that this is late today, but I’m up on the Mountain again for the holiday. My connection is really slow, but at least there are now two phone lines. Anyway, it looks like Sunday is the day for viewing in both the UK and the US. As usual, be sure to consult your local listings for your time zone. By the way, did you see that they’re playing Idiot’s Lantern again? I think there should be a rule that some station somewhere should be required to play that episode every week.

Yes. You already knew I was a bit strange. Enjoy.

Showtimes Here and There

Friday, November 9th, 2007

newearth1.jpg

Well, there’s a Sci Fi Channel Marathon today if y’all are interested…and in the USA. Idiot’s Lantern is included. Yay! I love that episode. Yes, I do have the DVDs, but it’s the principle of the thing. In any case, welcome to this week’s compiled showtimes for the shows of the Whoniverse playing in the US and UK. There’s still a lot of Torchwood this week. I hope that you all are enjoying the show. Sarah Jane continues doing her thing in the UK. I’m not holding my breath in hopes that the Sarah Jane Adventures are coming to the USA, but I will ask for that for Christmas. Who knows? Oh, and BBCAmerica? I could suggest a few other episodes you might think of showing a billion times instead of Love and Monsters. I’m just sayin’…

On Monday I will actually be reviewing part 2 of the Classic Doctor Who of An Unearthly Child. I hope that you enjoy this dip into the beginning of the show. I will move on to Torchwood or Sarah Jane once I have reviewed all four episodes of that story.

As usual, please remember to check your local listings to confirm episode play times as time zones may vary. Have a great weekend!

Well, at least The Impossible Planet is playing several this week. I like that episode of Doctor Who, but I’m wondering why they aren’t playing The Satan Pit, too. In any case, welcome to this week’s compiled showtimes for the shows of the Whoniverse playing in the US and UK. There’s still a lot of Torchwood this week. I hope that you all are enjoying the show. Tales From the Whoniverse

Friday, October 19th, 2007

magpie.jpg

Welcome to this week’s compiled showtimes from the US and UK. First, let me just say, look at all of the Torchwood! On the 20th alone, BBCAmerica is playing three different episodes. Also, please note that they are playing Idiot’s Lantern this week. I love that episode. In the UK, The Sarah Jane Adventures are going strong. Also, they will be playing a classic 3rd Doctor story on BBC Four on the 21st/22nd. Speaking of Classic Who, I’ve finally decided that I should begin my reviews on Classic episodes on Monday. I will begin with part one of An Unearthly Child. After that, would you prefer the review of part two, a review of an episode of Torchwood, or perhaps an episode of The Sarah Jane Adventures? I was originally thinking about rotating between the three shows until Christmas, but I would appreciate your input.

As usual, please remember to check your local listings to confirm episode play times as time zones may vary.

Friday, October 12th, 2007

Sigh. We have no new Doctor Who episodes to look forward to until Christmas. And that one looks to be all kinds of fun and interesting. I mean, hello, Titanic. Oh, and Kylie. In the meantime, Torchwood is going strong on BBCAmerica (which is also in the process of playing Doctor Who series 2.) The Sarah Jane Adventures are appearing Mondays on the BBC in the UK. There is still much activity in the Whoniverse. So, as usual, I bring you the showtimes for the US and UK shows in said Whoniverse. Enjoy.

Showtimes from Behind the Sofa

Friday, October 5th, 2007

toothandclaw2.jpg

Well folks, this is it. The final episode of Doctor Who series three airs tonight. Be prepared for a few surprises. (No, one of them is not Elvis appearing to save the day at the last minute…but wouldn’t that be cool?) The next new episode will appear at Christmas in the UK. Torchwood series one continues to air on BBc America. This week sees the premiere of episode 5 in the US. The Sarah Jane Adventures continues with parts one and two of its second story this week. Still no word of it coming to the US. (pout)

As per usual, I have linked my reaction post for this week’s episode in the showtimes below for the folks who want to rant/rave immediately after the episode. The full review will appear on Monday. The following Monday I will finally finish my review of Smith and Jones. Each Monday after that I will be reviewing Torchwood, Sarah Jane, or Classic Who. Enjoy the ep!

Showtimes in the Whoniverse

Friday, September 28th, 2007

doctorjackmartha.jpg

This week’s episode of Doctor Who is called The Sound of Drums. I’m not going to spoil it for you, but you may wish to watch this one from behind the sofa. Here’s hoping that the song I like remains intact for the American version. There’s only one episode left after this one. Hold on to your hat.

So, Doctor Who series 3 is finishing up on the SciFi Channel. Series 2 is playing on BBCAmerica. Torchwood series 1 has begun on BBCAmerica. Series 2 should appear in the UK in January, last I heard. And, The Sarah Jane Adventures have begun their first series in the UK. The Whoniverse is a busy place!

Showtimes in the Whoniverse

This week’s episode of Doctor Who is called Utopia, and it is the first part of a three-parter. Yes, that’s right, a three-parter. It also features the return of Captain Jack Harkness to Doctor Who. All sorts of twists and turns are ahead, so hold on to your seat!

Were you one of the 500,000 viewers that watched the premiere of Torchwood on BBCAmerica? It looks like Captain Jack’s show is off to a great start in the US. I hope that the numbers stay up there. The Sarah Jane Adventures will be starting up on CBBC on Sunday (Yes, Sunday, the 23rd. Get your recorders ready!) You can expect to encounter a familiar adversary on the show. Still no word about SJA coming to the US. *pout*

For those of you who wish to rant/rave about tonight’s episode right away, I have linked my reaction post to the showtime below. Right then, on to the showtimes!

Showtimes from Behind the Sofa

sofa-back.jpg

This week’s episode of Doctor Who is called Blink and it’s by the 2 time Hugo-award winning screenwriter, Steven Moffat. Just a word of warning: the baddies in Blink have recently been voted the scariest monsters of the year. So, you may wish to join me in viewing the episode from behind the sofa.

Were you one of the 500,000 viewers that watched the premiere of Torchwood on BBCAmerica? It looks like Captain Jack’s show is off to a great start in the US. I hope that the numbers stay up there. The Sarah Jane Adventures will be starting up on CBBC near the end of this month, and according to the official Doctor Who site, you can expect to encounter a familiar adversary on the show. The SJA site is being re-vamped at this time. Still no word about SJA coming to the US. *pout* For those of you who wish to rant/rave about tonight’s episode right away, I have linked my reaction post to the showtime below. Right then, on to the showtimes!
