Sunday, July 6th, 2008

episode-13-donna-official.jpg

The is the Reaction Post for the final episode of Doctor Who series four - Journey’s End. Before I finish this write up, I’ll probably have to go watch it again. This may explain why this post was a bit delayed. Before you ask, though, I loved this episode. And I did cry.

Now, for my very scattered views on this episode come on past the spoiler barrier.

Torchwood Series Three News

Monday, June 2nd, 2008

torchwood_cast2.jpg

As was suggested in a recent interview with Eve Myles (that I can’t find the link to, sorry), it has now been revealed that series three of Torchwood will not be the usual 13 episodes long. During 2009, the same year containing the Doctor Who drought broken only the four special episodes, Torchwood will consist of one five episode long story arc. It looks like said episodes will take place during one week? (Well, at least that’s what TV Guide is saying.) So, that only leaves The Sarah Jane Adventures in 2009, unless its second series suddenly materializes later this year instead. (I still haven’t heard when to expect series two for The Sarah Jane Adventures.)

So, right now I guess that this is what we are looking at:
Torchwood: First, there will be the Radio play this Summer (which is rumoured to include Martha), then next year we will have one five episode story arc.

Doctor Who: We still have the rest of series four to get through. Then, Christmas episode 2008. 2009 will bring us three specials, and, we assume, Christmas episode 2009. Come 2010 we will have all thirteen episodes of series five, as helmed by new Head Writer Steven Moffat.

The Sarah Jane Adventures: Last I heard, series two was being filmed and there is a rumour going around that The Doctor will make an appearance. (There is also a rumour about a new “companion.”) No word yet as to when the second series might air.

I have no idea how all this will translate as far as the U.S. is concerned. But, there you are. The news as I currently understand it.

Elisabeth Sladen on Blue Peter

Wednesday, May 14th, 2008

Elisabeth Sladen, better known to Doctor Who fans as Sarah Jane Smith, appeared on Blue Peter right before the Doctor Who series two episode School Reunion. It seems to have also happened before the Sarah Jane Smith Adventures had been announced. Also appearing in the interview was K-9…and various of the Blue Peter animals. I was surfing around YouTube again (I know. Big surprise.) and I ran across the interview this morning. The video and the audio don’t quite match up, but I think you will enjoy it anyway.

Thursday, May 8th, 2008

luke.jpg

This is the Reaction Post for The Sarah Jane Adventures series one - Warriors of Kudlak (part 1). As per usual we are left with a worrying cliff-hanger. They love doing that to us, don’t they? Well…I suppose that it’s the tradition to have cliff-hangers in the Whoniverse. Le Sigh.

If you’d like to join me for my usual disjointed reactions to this episode, click past the spoiler barrier…if you dare!

News of the Who

Thursday, May 1st, 2008

oncomingstorm3.jpg

For those of you who have been waiting for it, Torchwood series 1 and 2 are now available on iTunes in the US. Buy at will!

Flat Holm, the island featured in the Torchwood episode “Adrift,” is turning into a tourist destination. I wonder if they will ever actually go to Scotland and see Torchwood 2. It would spread the tourist love around even more.

I get the About.com Ancient History newsletter, and guess what I noticed in the most recent one? Doctor Who! N.S. Gill mentions the upcoming (in the US) episode - The Fires of Pompeii and points out that, “Not only does Doctor Who make reference to classical themes, but so do its spin-offs, Torchwood and The Sarah Jane Adventures.” It’s always cool to find another fan.

David Tennant and John Barrowman have been asked by the National Trust for Scotland to spend a “Perfect Day” exploring the Highlands to help them launch the Perfect Day website. At least, according to the Daily Record. Now that sounds cool. If only I could then win a trip to the Highlands…

Doctor Who won six awards at the BAFTA Cymru Awards! They took home - “Best Drama Series (Phil Collinson, for Voyage of the Damned), Best Screenwriter (Steven Moffat, for Blink), Best Sound (BBC Wales Sound team), Best Director, Drama (James Strong for Voyage of the Damned), Best Director of Photography (Ernie Vincze for Voyage of the Damned), and Best Make-Up (Barbara Southcott and Neill Gorton at Millennium FX for The Shakespeare Code).” Further, Torchwood received the Best Costume award for the episode Captain Jack Harkness.

Rumor Alert!

Will Christopher Eccleston star in a new version of The Prisoner? (It seems to me that this is the second time around for this rumor.)

Is Billie Piper pregnant? (The story goes like this: Billie and her Husband were on vacation, being photographed all the while by stalker photographers, and while they were on the beach Billie patted her belly. Now, everyone seems to think that she’s pregnant. Quite a lot of hoopla for a belly pat.)

Reaction Post: The Sarah Jane Adventures 1.1 - Revenge of the Slitheen (part 1)

sarahjaneadventures.jpg

This is the Reaction Post for The Sarah Jane Adventures series 1, episode 1 - Revenge of the Slitheen (part 1).

The episodes for this show are half an hour long, and each story seems to be two episodes long. The Sci Fi Channel is showing the second half of one story and the first half of the next each week (until the last episode.) Did you enjoy this episode? If you wish to discuss it with me, then click past the spoiler barrier.

A Quick State of the Whoniverse Update

Wednesday, April 9th, 2008

worldwariii.jpg

Hello all. It occurred to me that things might be a little bit confusing in the Whoniverse at present considering the difference in premiere dates, etc. between the US and UK. There’s also the fact that we are trying to keep track of three shows at this point. So, here is a quick State of the Whoniverse checkup.

Doctor Who:

UK - Series 4 began on 5 April with Partners in Crime.

US - 18 April will see Voyage of the Damned premiere on the SciFi Channel. Partners in Crime is scheduled to follow on 25 April.

Australia - I hear that they are still waiting for the Christmas Episode.

Torchwood:

UK - Series two ended on 4 April. There are already rumours about series three, but nothing official.

US - It looks like episode 12 will be playing this Saturday on BBCAmerica, with the final episode following on the 19th.

The Sarah Jane Adventures:

UK - Series one is complete, and I hear that they are working on series 2, but no word as to when it will begin.

US - Series one will begin with Invasion of the Bane on 11 April on the SciFi Channel.

And that’s where we stand at this point. Anyone have the Torchwood or SJA information for Australia?

News of the Who and Such

Friday, March 14th, 2008

sarahjaneadventures.jpg

The Sarah Jane Adventures will premiere in the USA on Friday, 11 April 2008 at 8pm (7 Central) on the SciFi Channel!

Series four of Doctor Who will begin in the USA on the SciFi Channel on 18 April 2008, according to the schedulebot. Still no official word on the UK premiere, as the official site still says “Spring 2008.” (The internet rumours still say sometime around Easter…which is coming up soon.)

The Torchwood Archives by Gary Russell is now listed over at Amazon.co.uk. No word yet as to when it will actually be available, but you can pre-order it already. Yay for the official book! Yet another thing to add to my want list.

The eagle-eyed Gillian from Food History passed along an amusing little article that she found online. It purports to be an early rehearsal from David Tennant’s run as Hamlet. It doesn’t matter either way, as “Doctor Who and the moody Dane” will give any Shakespeare fan a good giggle. Thanks for the link, Gillian!

In a recent SFX magazine article, Russell T. Davies said that Doctor Who was on the twenty year plan, and that this upcoming gap year was planned from the start. (Digital Spy quotes some of the article here.) Hey, I could go for twenty years of Who. Here’s hoping.

Even More News…

Saturday, February 2nd, 2008

sja_promo.jpg

Outpost Gallifrey is reporting that in an L. A. Times Article, RTD said (in an offhand way) that…

The Sarah Jane Adventures are coming to the US!

The word is that it will appear on the SciFi Channel starting in April. I haven’t seen any mention of this over on the Sci Fi Channel Webpage, but I would presume that RTD knows what he is talking about. And that would be another item to check off of my wish list for the new year. (Oh yeah, the article also mentioned that series four of Doctor Who will begin on the SciFi Channel in April. Still no word as to when it will begin in the UK, but you know that it will air there first.)

In Other News…Producer Phil Collinson will be leaving Doctor Who after series four wraps to become Head of Drama for BBC Manchester. Well…no wonder Russell T. Davies is staying put. He needs to break in the new folks when Phil and Julie go. Egad!

iF Magazine has posted an interview with Burn Gorman. It’s really quite interesting, and part 2 of the interview is coming soon.

And finally, the word on the street is that the trailer for Doctor Who series 4 has begun playing in UK cinemas. So, I found it for you. Sorry about the quality, but you can see how they got it.

And here is another one that is bigger, but the color fluctuates more.
