Watching Doctor Who

While David Tennant was busy with his co-hosting duties for this year’s Red Nose Day, the quick bit of Whoniversal fun for the year came from the Sarah Jane Adventures. First off, here is the Teaser trailer for the mini-episode.

I have the worst cold! I just wanted to complain to folks I couldn’t cough on, sorry. Now, on to the news.

The BBC is reporting that David Tennant is having surgery on Thursday for a slipped disc. He will not be back on stage as Hamlet until after Christmas, apparently. Get well soon, David!

For those of you in the U.S. who missed series one of The Sarah Jane Adventures the last time around, you can catch a marathon of the show on 16 December on the SciFi Channel. If you don’t get the SciFi Channel, don’t despair. Series one of The Sarah Jane Adventures is out on DVD.

Speaking of DVDs, have you finished your Chrismahanukwanzikah shopping yet? Currently you can purchase Torchwood series two, Doctor Who series four, and The Infinite Quest. I need to invest in some new bookcases for my DVDs.

Have you been keeping an eye on the Official Doctor Who Website? They’re up to their usual Advent Calendar shenanigans again this year. So far there have been videos, desktop backgrounds, a game, and a story. They’ve also been in the process of adding the information from series 1-3 and the specials to the site. If you haven’t been by in a while, it’s worth a look.

And at least we’ll have a full series of The Sarah Jane Adventures to look forward to next year to go along with the truncated series three of Torchwood and the Doctor Who specials. That’s right, series three will appear in the UK in Autumn of 2009. I still have no official start date for series two in the U.S., but now that it is over in the UK it shouldn’t bee too long hence.

On November 5, 2006 I posted my very first post here on Watching Doctor Who. I’ve just gone back and checked, and it turns out that my very first commenter was someone by the name of Debbie. My second commenter ever was…The Vig (her husband and still a frequent commenter two years in.) I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank them and all of my commenters during the last two years. You’ve helped to keep the conversation alive.

Well, it took me a bit longer than I had hoped to see this episode. Normally I watch it on my computer (which is a bit under construction at the moment.) I moved it over onto the main computer…and promptly discovered that said computer had lost all sound capabilities. It turns out that the cats managed to unplug some cord or other in the back.
