A Bit of Fun - What English Speaking Country Are You?

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

Have you ever wondered what English Speaking Country You Belong in? Well…I never really had any doubts about this. As you an see, there’s a reason for my lack of doubts. Why not have a bit of fun and try out the meme for yourself?

You Belong in the UK

Blimey!
A little proper, a little saucy.
You’re so witty and charming…
No one notices your curry breath

(Sorry, I’m really quite ill at the moment. If I feel a bit better when I wake up, I’ll do a news related post. In the meantime, enjoy the meme.)

News, Notes, and Awards

I’ve won an award! JM from Fiction Scribe has gifted me with the Roar for Powerful Words Award.

The rules are:

* Link back to the person who tagged you.

* List three things that you believe are necessary to make writing good and powerful.

* Tag five others and comment on their blog informing them that they’ve been tagged with this award.

So…here are three things I believe are necessary for making writing good and powerful:

1. Knowledge of your subject…even if that subject is a complete fantasy.

2. Passion for your topic.

3. A spark of creativity.

I wish to pass the award on to:

Amy of Lives Less Ordinary, The folks who send letters to Dear Anonymous, Puss Reboots, Dave P of PopBuzzUK, and JM at The Book Stacks. (No, you don’t have to participate in the passing on of the award. Just know that I think you offer powerful words with your blogs.)

And now…back to our topic.

First of all, sorry for the down time on the site. We were upgrading our servers. Hopefully everything should be okay now.

Over on the Official Doctor Who Website they’ve announced a couple more guest stars for Doctor Who series 4. Alex Kingston from ER and Colin Salmon from many things including James Bond films will be among the guest stars in the upcoming series. Series 4 is getting more interesting by the day. Who will they announce next?

Apparently, Burn Gorman told SciFi Wire that he was glad that the U.S. gets Torchwood. He’s pleased that Torchwood is being accepted as a stand alone show. Also, he enjoys working with John Barrowman. Good to hear it.

Digital Spy is reporting that the Doctor Who series 3 episode Gridlock is up for an Epiphany Prize. This prize is given out to “popular, entertaining movies and television programs that are wholesome, inspirations, uplifting, redemptive, and moral.” And while I am glad that Doctor Who is up for another award, one has to wonder if these folks have actually watched the show. Anyway, the awards ceremony will be on February 12 in Beverly Hills.

An excerpt of John Barrowman’s new autobiography is available over at the Daily Record website if you are interested. I’m quite keen to get my hands on a copy of that book.

And finally, a bit of random news. Did you know that Tesco is expanding to the West Coast of the US? Yes indeed. It looks like this British chain will be opening 18 stores in the San Francisco Bay area under the name “Fresh and Easy Neighborhood Market.” I have one question. Will they have the same merchandise as the Tescos in Britain?

Meme and Rumors

meme.jpg

I figured that it would happen eventually. I’ve been tagged in that “Seven Random Things” meme by Cloudy over at Cloudy’s Chronicle. But before I fulfill my meme-y obligation, I thought that you all might be interested in hearing about a casting rumor from series two of Torchwood.

*Ahem*
James Marsters is guest-starring in an episode of Torchwood! (Yes. Spike from Buffy.) Now, although the articles I’ve seen that claim this as fact say that the info is on James Marsters’ Official Website, I was just over there and I saw nary a mention of this fact. Mind you, he does seem to have two websites, and the second one is currently down…so, maybe the information is lurking on that one. I would just like to say…it would be really interesting to see him on the show. *fingers crossed*

Anyway, on to the meme. I’m supposed to post seven random things about myself. Well, as this *is* a Doctor Who blog, I will provide you with
Seven Random Facts About Myself That Are Vaguely Related to Doctor Who:

1. I have been a Doctor Who Fan for over 20 years. (And I still have my “Time Lord” t-shirt from High School.)

2. I’ve only ever seen Christopher Eccleston on Doctor Who. (Although this will change in October if not sooner.)

3. I have Patrick Troughton’s Autograph. (And Colin Baker’s, too)

4. I have never been to Cardiff. (I hope that this will change…and soon!)

5. Those Bluetooth ear thingies bugged me when I first started seeing them, but after the whole “Earpod” thing on Rise of the Cybermen/Age of Steel they totally weird me out. Especially the ones with the little blinking light. (eek!)

6. I was in London just months before the London Eye was completed, and I also didn’t visit Big Ben. (I did manage to see the Rosetta Stone, though.)

7. I helped to pay for the construction of the new Globe Theater. Seriously. My High School held a Shakespeare read-athon a few years running to help raise money. We’ve got a plaque on a pillar over there. (Oh yeah, and I had tea there while I was in London…and watched an all male production of Julius Caesar.)

Well, there you are. Seven Random Facts. Now, I’m supposed to tag seven other people, but this is actually the fourth time I’ve done this meme (I have a few blogs, you see) and I’ve pretty much used up my tagging ability at this point. So, if you are interested in this meme, consider yourself tagged. Just be sure to comment here with a link to your answers, because I’m curious that way.
