(Photo:Franks/WireImage - Matt Smith on Stage in 2006)

I have a lot of bits and bobs to share with you all this time around, so I’d better get to it. For example, did you know that when he was announced as the Eleventh Doctor, Matt Smith was nowhere to be found on WireImage (the Entertainment photo and video archive.) Now, suddenly, there are a slew of images of him from various stage performances (as you can see above.) I guess he’s on his way. I’m interested to see what will show up there as the year goes on.

In my online travels, I have run across another holiday-themed Dalek. Check it out. I obviously have to start thinking now about my Christmas decorations for 2009.

KTEH in San Jose, CA is holding a video contest! If you’re older than 13, can actually get to San Jose (do you know the way?), and are willing to make an entirely original video related to Doctor Who, you can enter. Personally, I’m hoping that I can enter something…after I visit a certain evil twin of mine in L.A. Anyone else out there entering?

Character Options is coming out with a new series of Doctor Who action figures called “Time Squad“:

The picture above is one of the sets that will be available on 16 February 2009 at Forbidden Planet and I imagine elsewhere also. Huge thanks to msauers and littleradge for letting me know about these action figures. May I just say, in a moment of girly-ness, that these toys are so cute? No? Well…they are. They’re only 2 inches tall. I’m so tempted to get them all and take them to work. They would give my desk a certain something, don’t you think?

And finally, I offer you a silly video. This is the trailer for Austin Powers: Goldmember redone with clips from the new series of Doctor Who. Thehellishgnome is obviously brilliant, as this works out a bit too well. Mind you, Mike Myers’ voice coming out of David Tennant’s mouth is a bit disturbing. Yeah, baby.

We Have a Winner!

Monday, December 1st, 2008

Right. I put one slip of paper in my straw hat for every comment this month. Just so that you lot know I’m playing fair I actually filmed myself choosing the name from the hat with the help of my husband. His arm is the guest star in the video. (I apologize for the quality of the video, but the built-in webcam on my laptop is made of fail.) Thanks for playing!

And the Winner is:

In the meantime, to keep you all entertained, here is a video of a certain “Littleradge” interacting with The Doctor. Enjoy…and Don’t Blink.

Question: 11th Doctor?

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

So the rumours are flying think and fast. Who will be the next Doctor? Here are a couple of the possible candidates:

David Morrissey (Photo by Jules Annan from WireImage)

He seems to be playing a version of The Doctor in the Doctor Who Christmas special called…The Next Doctor.

Paterson Joseph (Photo by JAB Promotions from WireImage)

Previously appearing on Doctor Who in the last two episodes of series one, playing a really annoying guy.

Today’s question is: Who do you think should be the next Doctor? As per usual, I offer you a few…suggestions apart from the two fellows above. I’m helpful like that.

1. Michael Praed (Yes, I watched Robin Hood at an impressionable age.)
2. Robert Pattinson (He’ll probably be too busy, but he said he’d be up for it.)
3. Jack Davenport (He was in Steven Moffat’s “Coupling.”)
4. Rufus Sewell (He would take the part someplace different. That’s for sure.)
5. Christopher Eccleston (Stranger things have happened, right? Hey. I can dream.)

And just to be random, I’m going to cast my vote for Eoin McCarthy to be the next Doctor. He’s a bit older than they’ve been aiming for, but I think he’d do a great job.

What do you all think?

John Barrowman Sings “Anything Goes”

Saturday, November 1st, 2008

I’m not sure if I’ve posted this here before, but if I did, it was long enough ago that I’ll bet you don’t remember either. I just thought that it would be an appropriate way to begin our anniversary month, and not so incidentally give you a place to comment…and thus enter the contest. This video is one of the extras on the Torchwood series one DVD set. John Barrowman is singing on the set of the show, and I’ll bet that you can spot the episode that said set is from. Really, the setting is perfect for the song.

Question: Do you think that they should do a Torchwood musical episode? Watch the video, then lay your thoughts on me.

Contest Announcement

Friday, October 31st, 2008

First things first. November marks the two year anniversary of Watching Doctor Who. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the folks who read my blog and all of the people who bring us those Tales of the Whoniverse.

How am I planning to celebrate? By having a contest, of course!

Rules:
You can enter the contest simply by commenting on any post that appears on this blog during the month of November. Commenting on older posts will not count. You may comment as many times as you like, but these comments should be in some way related to the posts you comment on. Each comment is an entry. On December first I will announce the winner, and e-mail them to tell them they’ve won. So, please include your e-mail address with your comment.

What will you win? A couple of classic Doctor Who magazines and a wee surprise.

Sound good? Then get commenting starting November 1, 2008.

A Bit More News

Christopher Eccleston recently did a voiceover for an Amnesty International video about the proposed UK laws that would enable them to detain terrorism suspects for 42 days without a trial. You can watch “Sleepwalking” here.

In this years’ National Television Awards the male and female talent are competing against one another in every category. What does this mean for us? Well…it means that David Tennant and Catherine Tate are competing against each other for the Outstanding Drama Performance Award. (Doctor Who is also up for Most Popular Drama, by the way.) You still have a couple of days left to vote, if you’re of a mind to do so. Slightly more than seven days left until the show.

Digital Spy is reporting that the score for Doctor Who series four will be out on 17 November in the UK. No sign of it in the US as yet. Some of the tracks include: Season Four Opening Credits, Songs of Captivity and Freedom, and Silence In The Library. Yay for Oodsong!

Some other items that are out right now (and coming soon), for those of you preparing your Christmas/Chanukah/etc. lists:
* The Torchwood Soundtrack (US)
* The Sarah Jane Adventures - The Complete First Season (US)
* Doctor Who: The Complete Fourth Series (US) (18 November)
* Doctor Who: The Infinite Quest (US) (18 November)
* “Torchwood”: Lost Souls (BBC Audio) (UK)

And finally, just a note to remind you all that next month is the Two Year Anniversary of this blog. Wow! I don’t believe it! Stand by for a contest announcement at some point soon.
