News and The Brits

Saturday, February 23rd, 2008

davidandkyliehugbrits2008.jpg

The Brits were a couple of days ago, and wouldn’t you know it? David Tennant got to give Kylie the award for International Female Solo Artist. As you can see, they were both quite pleased about this.

Both David and Kylie were interviewed for Radio One after she received the award. You can watch the interview here. You’d think that you wouldn’t be able to see an interview for radio…but that’s where you’d be wrong.

Kylie performed her song “Wow” live on stage at The Brits. If you would be interested to see her performance, you can see it here. If you want to see her interviewed on the Red Carpet, you can see that too. Oh. You say that you would like to see that hug in motion and watch her acceptance speech? Well…you can. (Don’t you just love Youtube?)

david2008brits.jpg

And, of course, I had to include a picture of David with his silver star on his chest. He was wearing his black velvet coat again. Apparently folks like the way it feels. Well, congratulations to Kylie Minogue, and I’m glad that David was the one who got to give her the award.

And now, onto other things:

This blog is up for a Blogger’s Choice Award again this year. I’d be ever so thankful if you would pop along and vote for me. (Thank you kindly.)

My site was nominated for Best Entertainment Blog!

James Moran has a blog! Yes, that’s right, you can keep track of the author of the Torchwood episode Sleeper, author of an episode in Doctor Who series four, and all around nice fellow (I met him, remember?). A big Hat Tip to Paul Cornell for letting me know about this blog.

Gareth David-Lloyd has done a spoiler-y interview with Zap2it. In it, he mentions that he is interested in coming to a U.S. Convention. I hope that Shaun Lyon and Co. are paying attention to this. I’d love to see him at Gallifrey One next year.

Recently, Catherine Tate had the opportunity to interview David Tennant for Chain Reaction on Radio 4. (Listen Again while you can.) The next episode with feature David Tennant interviewing Richard Wilson.

Please note: If you live in the UK, you can now buy episodes of Torchwood from iTunes. I wonder if this will ever be the case in any other country.

Paul O’Grady will reportedly be playing himself in an episode of Doctor Who series four. For a short and spoilery article about this go here. I was particularly interested to see the other names mentioned in this article.

And finally, I’ve read an article that said that Chris Chibnall would be leaving as the Torchwood head writer at the end of series two to go work on CSI: London. It was open in one of the windows on my laptop when it died, and I haven’t been able to find it again. So, we’ll just treat it as a rumor for now, okay?

News and a Reminder

Friday, February 8th, 2008

Come With Me

Reminder:

I will be gone next week as I have taken time off to go down to Gallifrey One in Los Angeles, California. The convention is running from 15-17 February. I hope to see some of you there. (Don’t worry lisa-marie. I’m bringing my camera.) Anyway, in the meantime please enjoy a bit of posting randomness. The usual schedule with re-assert itself upon my return…after some Con Reports, of course.

Moving on…

While filming with a Baddie from Doctor Who series four, Freema felt quite tall, apparently. She also found the guys in prosthetics “really cute and quite funny.” Let us hope that we have a different reaction, eh?

Kevin Stoney who played three classic characters (Playing against the 1st Doctor, Guardian of the Solar System Mavic Chen The Daleks’ Master Plan. Playing against the 2nd Doctor as Tobias Vaughn in The Invasion. With the 4th Doctor he played the Vogan Tyrum in Revenge of the Cybermen.) has passed away. He was 86.

The other half of the iF Magazine Burn Gorman interview has arrived, and brings with it whispers of crossovers and a discussion of how Owen has changed this series. The crossover thing has me quite intrigued.

Big Finish, the company that makes the Doctor Who audio adventures, has started to make some of their adventures available in a pay to download format. For those of you in the U.S. that have found the price of their CDs prohibitive, you are in for a happy surprise with these downloads. They’re only $12.99. Also, Big Finish now has a Podcast that you can subscribe to.

A Question for You All

Sunday, November 25th, 2007

So, I’ve been doing this blog for a little over a year now and I’m curious what features you like. Should I discontinue Friday Showtimes? Do you like the Tuesday question? Is there something else you’d like me to discuss? Do you want more discussion of spin-offs? Would you like a bit more of the classic Who? Would you like to tell me about your First Doctor?

Thanks for your input, and I return you to your regularly scheduled blog. As you were.

Hiatus

Monday, October 29th, 2007

It’s the middle of the night right now where I am, and we’ve just received one of those phone calls that you dread. Watching Doctor Who will be on hiatus for a few days as I must head out of computer range to deal with a death in the family. Service will resume when I get back down off of the mountain.

Please send prayers and good thoughts.

Whoniverse News Break

Thursday, August 2nd, 2007

nu-whosketches3.jpg

During the San Diego Comic-Con (that I didn’t get to go to *sniffle*) came the announcement of a Doctor Who Comic Book featuring the Tenth Doctor and Martha. The stories will take place in the latter part of series three and word has it that they are canon. Gary Russell (Doctor Who script editor) is signed to write the stories, and Nick Roche will be doing the artwork. We can expect these comics to appear beginning in early 2008. For more info (and more sketches) check out the article over at Comic Book Resources. And now I have yet another thing to hunt for in comic shops.

In other news, I am going to be participating in a Convention. As an invited guest, if you can believe it. Yep. Catslyn from Watching Stargate and I are filling the 1am (Australia Time) timeslot (That’s 8am, Pacific Time) for the Conflux Virtual Mini-Con. We are the SciFi in Cyberspace group. Go us! The Mini-Con is free, so come on over and chat with us.

Torchwood is coming to HD in the US in September. It will appear on HDNet. (Now, if only I had an HD TV.)

If you would like to read some spoilery information about series 4 of Doctor Who, and series 2 of Torchwood, you might just check out this interview with Julie Gardner from iF Magazine. She has a bunch to say. (pssst! She doesn’t think that RTD will quit.)

Colin Baker (the 6th Doctor) is glad that the new show is doing well, because now his daughters think he is cool. (They’ve even gone back and enjoyed his episodes now. I’m glad to know that they’ve seen the light.)

The folks over at david-tennant.com are raising money for the ACCORD hospice in Paisley in memory of David’s mother Helen. Be sure to stop by and see if you can help out. Go here to check out the auction. You can read a BBC article about the effort here.

John Normington, who played the older Tom Flanagan in the Torchwood episode Ghost Machine, has passed away. He was 70.

First a comic book, and now a video game. That’s right, a video game. Not much is known about the Doctor Who video game at present, beyond its appearing during the holidays, and availability on more that one platform. In the UK, anyway. No word on theoretical availability in the US yet (sigh.)

*whew* Well, that’s it for this week. Don’t forget to join me for the mini-con.

Torchwood Coming To BBC America!

Monday, April 2nd, 2007

torchwoodteam.jpg

You read that right folks. Torchwood is coming to BBC Americaaccording to them. Apparently, the whole channel is undergoing a radical makeover (which may explain why I was able to find Doctor Who listings for the end of the month today. Normally, they don’t have listings that far ahead.) Torchwood is slated to be part of their “Supernatural Saturday” prime-time line up (as are “new episodes” Doctor Who). No exact dates as yet, only “later this year.” So…it looks like my New Year’s Wish is coming true. Yes! I’ll let you know anything more that I discover. Hopefully the dates will be posted soon.

Win Some Money By Commenting

Saturday, January 13th, 2007

money.jpg

451 Press is holding a comment contest for the month of January. So, until January 31st any quality comment that you post on our nework (except 451press.com itself) makes you eligible for the drawing. There is one $500 prize, and five $100 prizes. Apparently, you may “enter” as much as you would like, and the winners will be randomly chosen. (I can’t win. Sigh.) If you want to check out other blogs in this network you only need to scroll to the bottom of this page. My other blog is: The Book Stacks, if you are interested. So, get out there and comment! Good luck! We now return you to the usual Doctor Who-related postings.

No Doctor Who Tonight

Friday, December 29th, 2006

doomsday1.jpg

Well, there’s two episodes of Torchwood left to play in the UK, and The Sarah Jane Smith Adventures special will play in the UK on New Year’s Day. After that, it looks like there will be nothing new until March 2007. In the UK that is. The US will have to wait until Summer for the new episodes to arrive. There is another Doctor Who marathon due January 12, 2007 on the Sci Fi Channel, and season one is unfolding over on BBC America. Hopefully they will then move directly to season two. Who knows if Torchwood will make its way across the pond anytime soon. In any case, I just wanted to let you know that I will continue to post reviews on Saturday until I run out of things to review. I’m thinking that I can keep you all entertained until at least the Summer. I have all those years of the classic show to work my way through, after all. I’ll review Doomsday tomorrow, and then I will go back to season one and work my way forward until I catch up with myself. At that point, I will likely start with An Unearthly Child and see what happens. Have a Happy New Year!

Don’t forget that the Sci Fi Channel Doctor Who marathon is today. The final two episodes of season two will be shown this evening at 8pm/7pm central. I’ll review the first half for Saturday, but I may not get to the other half until Boxing Day. Ummm…you may want to make sure that you have tissues for tonight’s finale.

Sunday, December 17th, 2006

xmaswho1.jpg

Greetings Whovians. Well, it’s that gift giving time of year. You know. Chrismahannukwanzakah. In the spirit of this holiday rich week (and a bit) I thought that I would offer you all a gift. This week, I am planning on offering up a review a day. Yep. You heard me. (Wish me luck. Those suckers take forever to write up.) I am hoping to offer a variety of reviews, so that every day is a surprise. I would also like to thank everyone for stopping by. This blog was my birthday present this year, and I hope that I have taken good care of it. So, I wish you all happy holidays for the rest of time. And space. May you all get a TARDIS this year. (Now, wouldn’t that make the Time Agency nervous?)
