…But does the quilt travel in time?

Monday, February 23rd, 2009

(It turns out that I’ve been collecting odds and ends of news and coolness in my Firefox tags since before I left for Gallifrey One. So, here they are all gathered together for you.)

I’ve got two word for you all: TARDIS quilt! My Mum has gotten very into quilting since she’s retired, and in surfing around quilting sites she discovered this quilt. She has now added my request for a TARDIS quilt of my own to her growing queue. I rather think I will remain at the end for a while, but I don’t mind. I can wait, albeit impatiently.

There’s a rumour going around that Robert Mugabe, the President of Zimbabwe, might have some of the lost episodes of Doctor Who in his possession. Any Doctor Who fans out there in Zimbabwe who are willing to infiltrate the Presidential tape vault? Anyone?

In an interview on the official BBC Doctor Who site, Matt Smith admits to liking long coats and “rather dashing scarves.” Perhaps this will influence his outfit as the Doctor? He’s apparently deep in the thick of things now. I, for one, am dead curious to see what they come up with for both the costume and the character.

The first of the Doctor Who tenth Doctor special episodes, Planet of the Dead, is using Dubai, of all places, as one of its filming locations. I heard that they had trouble with one of their doubledecker buses in the process. In any case, for a tiny bit of information and five interesting photographs of filming (one of which is now my desktop background) go here.

And finally, I offer you a most amazing video as sent to me by Paul of Toybender.com (which I subsequently watched on Topless Robot.) Have you ever asked yourself what a Doctor Who Anime might look like? OtaKing77077 is working on the answer to that question. In the meantime, he offers the world a bit of the work in progress. Fans of the third Doctor may now rejoice.

Whoniverse News Break

nu-whosketches3.jpg

During the San Diego Comic-Con (that I didn’t get to go to *sniffle*) came the announcement of a Doctor Who Comic Book featuring the Tenth Doctor and Martha. The stories will take place in the latter part of series three and word has it that they are canon. Gary Russell (Doctor Who script editor) is signed to write the stories, and Nick Roche will be doing the artwork. We can expect these comics to appear beginning in early 2008. For more info (and more sketches) check out the article over at Comic Book Resources. And now I have yet another thing to hunt for in comic shops.

In other news, I am going to be participating in a Convention. As an invited guest, if you can believe it. Yep. Catslyn from Watching Stargate and I are filling the 1am (Australia Time) timeslot (That’s 8am, Pacific Time) for the Conflux Virtual Mini-Con. We are the SciFi in Cyberspace group. Go us! The Mini-Con is free, so come on over and chat with us.

Torchwood is coming to HD in the US in September. It will appear on HDNet. (Now, if only I had an HD TV.)

If you would like to read some spoilery information about series 4 of Doctor Who, and series 2 of Torchwood, you might just check out this interview with Julie Gardner from iF Magazine. She has a bunch to say. (pssst! She doesn’t think that RTD will quit.)

Colin Baker (the 6th Doctor) is glad that the new show is doing well, because now his daughters think he is cool. (They’ve even gone back and enjoyed his episodes now. I’m glad to know that they’ve seen the light.)

The folks over at david-tennant.com are raising money for the ACCORD hospice in Paisley in memory of David’s mother Helen. Be sure to stop by and see if you can help out. Go here to check out the auction. You can read a BBC article about the effort here.

John Normington, who played the older Tom Flanagan in the Torchwood episode Ghost Machine, has passed away. He was 70.

First a comic book, and now a video game. That’s right, a video game. Not much is known about the Doctor Who video game at present, beyond its appearing during the holidays, and availability on more that one platform. In the UK, anyway. No word on theoretical availability in the US yet (sigh.)

*whew* Well, that’s it for this week. Don’t forget to join me for the mini-con.

infinite2.jpg

Here are the last two installments of The Infinite Quest in one continuous video. It’s been a great ride. I wonder if they will do something similar next year. Now, if they would only show this as a special on BBCAmerica or The Sci Fi Channel… Sigh. Well, enjoy! (I’ll be back from my vacation next week.)

Totally Doctor Who’s Infinite Quest just keeps on…questing. Part 11 of 13 has aired in the UK, part 12 is dues on Friday, and part 13 is due to appear on Saturday as part of the full length adventure (all thirteen parts played together.) Without giving too much away, I would just like to say that the end of part eleven is a bit…worrying. Oh yes, and Anthony Head is doing a great job as the voice of the baddie. I would like it to be Friday now, please. If you would like to watch parts 1-10 before part 11, you will find them linked here. For this week’s installment, just venture past the spoiler barrier. Enjoy!

Well, as many of you will be unsurprised to discover, lots of the episodes of The Infinite Quest have disappeared from YouTube. *ominous music* So, for those of you who still wish to watch the few episodes that are left, I will link all of the remaining copies below. Eight episodes have been shown so far, out of an eventual thirteen as part of Totally Doctor Who (in the UK.) The remaining bits of The Infinite Quest:

Part 1, Part 1

Part 2, Part 2

Part 3 & 4? (it says 1 & 2, but it looks more like 3 & 4)

Okay folks, here is part 7 ofThe Infinite Quest! As is common on Doctor Who it’s hard to know friend from foe at first in this animated adventure. So…is it Friday yet? If you wish to enjoy this series too, said part 7 of The Infinite Quest, courtesy of YouTube, lurks behind the spoiler barrier. Six parts left now. I get the feeling that they will *never* show Totally Doctor Who in the US. Sigh. (part 1) (part 2) (part 3) (part 4) (part 5) (part 6) Enjoy!

The Infinite Quest

Wednesday, April 4th, 2007

infinite.jpg

Back in January I mentioned that season 2 of Totally Doctor Who (which is still not being shown in The States) was going to feature a 13 part animated series featuring The Doctor and Martha. Well, the first episode of Totally Doctor Who played in the UK on Monday, and with it The Infinite Quest has also begun. Now, unless the BBC decides to include this animated feature on the Doctor Who series 3 DVD it may never appear in many places around the world. Well, unless you count YouTube. Part 1 of The Infinite Quest, courtesy of YouTube is behind the spoiler barrier. Enjoy!
