And Now The News…

Don’t forget that Billie Piper’s show Secret Diary of a Call Girl is starting in the USA on Showtime on 16 June 2008. You can check out the Showtime site for the show for videos, wallpapers, etc.

Speaking of Billie Piper, the rumours of her pregnancy persist. Still no official word, though.

Rumour has it that Neil Gaiman may be writing an episode of Doctor Who. Currently, the speculation is centering on series 5. That could be quite interesting! I can only imagine what we’d end up with. (Thanks for the head’s up, Erik.)

In an interview on EclipseMagazine.com, Eve Myles talks about the difficulty of filming “Exit Wounds” and some of her upcoming projects. Still no new information about series three of Torchwood, sadly.

TVShowsOnDVD.com is announcing that there are some classic Doctor Who adventures and K-9 and Company headed for DVD in September. The Invasion of Time, the Invisible Enemy, and K-9 And Company will appear on shelves in North America on 2 September.

Another David Tennant Radio Interview

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

On 14 April 2008, David Tennant appeared on Colin Murray’s BBC Radio 1 show. Some kind person has taken that interview and placed in on YouTube with a bit of a slide show to keep it visually interesting. Admittedly, this slide show isn’t as nice as the last one I found, so don’t feel too terrible if you just listen to the interview while doing something else. As seems to always be the case when Mr. Tennant does and interview, I was certainly kept entertained. Did you know that when you have to come up with a new name to get your Equity Card, as your name is already in use, you have to come up with three names? Well, in this bit of Radio1 goodness you will learn what a certain actor’s other two choices were. And be sure to listen closely for David to quote some Avril Lavigne lyrics towards the end of the conversation.

Enjoy!

Radio 4’s Chain Reaction

Thursday, May 22nd, 2008

doctordonna2.jpg

A while back, there was an episode of Radio 4’s Chain Reaction in which Catherine Tate interviewed David Tennant. (The following week, David went on to interview someone else.) It was hilarious. Now, someone has kindly posted that radio interview to YouTube, though they won’t let folks embed it. This Mysterious Benefactor has even gone to the trouble of providing you with images relevant to the conversation. I have linked all three parts of the interview below. Oh, and you may not want to try drinking anything while listening, unless you enjoy having drinks up your nose.

Enjoy!

John Simm Reads for Cbeebies

Wednesday, May 21st, 2008

John Simm, known in the Whoniverse as Harold Saxon/The Master, reads Me and My Mammothfor the Cbeebies Bedtime Story in this video. It’s a cute little story. I don’t know about you, but I wouldn’t mind ending up with a live Mammoth when I was trying to make an airplane.

…I’m just sayin’. Enjoy!

David Tennant on Derren Brown’s Trick or Treat

Friday, May 16th, 2008

Back in January, illusionist Derren Brown ambushed David Tennant to get him to be in an episode of Derren Brown’s Trick or Treat. They finally showed the episode tonight. David had previously indicated that he’d be interested to be on the show, apparently, so it shouldn’t be too surprising to discover that he was all for it. He participated in three different experiments, one of which involved him traveling back in time to the 1930s.

I’m going to tell you know that this is a little bit freaky. David feels the same way, or so he says in the episode. Don’t be scared off, though. If It were scary, I wouldn’t have watched it. (Those of you who know me personally can vouch for this.) The whole thing is more intriguing than anything else. Also, you get to see David in a tight-fitting wet suit at one point.

Watch it before Youtube takes it down, and enjoy.

David Tennant - Still Sexy

Even sexy dressed down

dtathp5inlondon.jpg

David Tennant has been voted TV’s Sexiest Leading Man in a poll run by digital channel Hallmark, The Daily Record (and many other places) is reporting. It seems that he got nearly a quarter of all the votes. The poll also found that thirty-eight percent of responders “said charisma was the key component for a leading man.” Thirty-six percent maintained that “looking good” was the key ingredient, and twelve percent said “not playing by the rules” got their vote. Who else could they have chosen for the number one spot?

Way to go David!

Christopher Eccleston is Destro

Wednesday, May 7th, 2008

destrocropped.jpg

They’ve finally released the picture of Christopher Eccleston as Destro in G. I. Joe. IESB.net has the rights for this picture, so I’m only bringing you a tiny piece of it. For the full image, go here. Obviously I had to share this with you all. (Huge thanks to Rambling Rose for letting me know that this image was finally available.)

G.I. Joe is due in US theaters on 7 August 2009. Sigh. I guess I need to go see it.

David Tennant in Hamlet and Other News

Tuesday, May 6th, 2008

Thanks to Mkejenkins for the heads up
)

That’s right, folks. David Tennant’s time with the Royal Shakespeare Company has nearly arrived. He will be appearing in Love’s Labour’s Lost from 2 October to 15 November 2008 and in Hamlet from 24 July to 15 November 2008. Never have I wished more that I could win the lottery and/or that they would film these productions to show on the BBC. Sigh.

Heads up! Torchwood is up for a NewNowNext Award. Vote at will!

Interested in having your own wee TARDIS console and happen to have £325.00 lying around? Well, if so, you may wish to pre-order now. (And if you have an extra £325.00…buy one for me.)

I know that this isn’t directly Doctor Who related, but…Primeval will begin playing on BBC America on 2 August 2008 according to Variety. This show was originally created to compete with the SciFi coolness happening over on the BBC…and now it’s appearing on the same channel. Just thought that you lot would like to know. I quite enjoyed series one…

Freema Agyeman mentioned in a recent interview that she will be appearing in a BBC production of Little Dorrit, and that the filming should begin soon. I hope that she has all kinds of fun doing period drama, and that the production turns out to be a rousing success.

And speaking of Ms. Agyeman, according to the BBC Press Office during the BBC Proms 2008 music festival she will be hosting a very special “Prom.” The Press Office says - “A Doctor Who Prom, presented by Freema Agyeman (aka Martha Jones). A family concert featuring a specially filmed scene written by Russell T Davies and starring David Tennant, plus a selection of classical favourites with a strong flavour of time and space (27 July).” So, pencil in the date on your calendar. (Don’t worry. It looks like it will be available online.)

Oh, and speaking of the Proms…here is a fellow by the name of Nigel Kennedy from the Proms photocall, performing the Doctor Who theme on an electrical violin. Enjoy!

Whoniversal News Round Up

Thursday, April 17th, 2008

dtandfaatlaunchof-series3boxset2.jpg

Reminder: David Tennant’s Birthday is 18 April. Do you all think that might be why Doctor Who series 4 begins in the US on that date? Coincidence? Hmm? In any case, Happy Birthday David!

Blog Note: With two of the shows of the Whoniverse appearing at basically the same time in the US of A, there is quite a lot to react to/review. I will try to get the posts together as soon as possible. Thank you for joining me for the craziness.

Tim McInnerny of Blackadder fame will appear in the third episode of Doctor Who series 4, called Planet Of The Ood according to Metro.co.uk. Apparently the episode comes complete with a lesson. It will air on 19 April in the UK, and a few weeks later in the USA.

The Daily Star is reporting that this Sunday’s BAFTAs will include a relaxed dress code for men. David Tennant is supposed to be one of those to keep your eyes open for. I guess we’ll see soon.

(For those of you interested, David Tennant has been linked to yet another young lady.)

Do you remember how the Doctor Who series 3 DVDs for North America didn’t have the David Tennant, Freema Agyeman, and John Barrowman commentary on “The Last of the Timelords”? Well, TVShowsOnDVD.com has some news for us. It seems that you can now download that commentary from the BBCAmerica site. Well…at least that’s something.

A Couple of Videos to Entertain You

Tuesday, April 15th, 2008

I was reading this article yesterday, and I discovered that there is a band from Manchester called I Am Kloot. Why should you care about this band with a huge cult following? Well, it turns out that they made a video for their song “Proof” that was never released. It consisted solely of a close up of Christopher Eccleston’s head. (Well, you see his shoulders some, but mostly it’s his head.) I’m curious to know what you all think of it. I liked it, but I did also get that thing where you feel a bit uncomfortable maintaining eye contact with someone for too long. It’s quite interesting how much emotion Eccleston can convey with just the tiniest movements. Enjoy!

I Am Kloot - Proof:

John Barrowman is currently touring the UK. Perhaps “singing his way across the UK” would be a bit more accurate. Among the songs he includes in his concerts is one called “The Doctor and I.” apparently he sings it from Jack’s point of view (which shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone who sees Jack’s coat behind him.) Here is a video that gives you a wee taste of the song.

A Day With John Barrowman

Tuesday, April 8th, 2008

johnbarrowmantvquick2007.jpg

Apparently John Barrowman has his own YouTube channel, as I discovered recently. (It’s official and everything.) One of the things he has posted there is a five part series where a camera followed him around for the day while he was promoting his new album. He has embedding disabled, but I’ve included the links to all five parts. Expect the John Barrowman that you’ve come to know, as he doesn’t act any differently in these videos than he has in other interviews that I’ve seen. Enjoy!

David Tennant on The Friday Night Project…again.

Wednesday, April 2nd, 2008

davidtennanthead.jpg

David Tennant is one busy fellow. He’s got rehearsals for Hamlet, the Doctor Who premiere, and on 28 March he appeared, once again, on the hilarious Friday Night Project. This time, Justin, Alan, and David attended some group therapy and Freema even pops by to help out during two of the segments. My least favorite part is always the practical joke. I can’t stand those things. (Even if it involves David Tennant in his skivvies.) As for my favorite part this time around…I’ll have to go with the Hair Ruffle. David is a pretty relaxed felow, isn’t he? Well, enjoy, and you may not want to drink anything while you’re watching. I’m just sayin’…

News of the Who

Monday, March 31st, 2008

doctordonna1.jpg

Thank you so much for sticking with me while I’ve been ill, and a big welcome to all of the new folks stopping by. There’s lots to talk about, so let’s get started.

The BBC Doctor Who Site is planning a huge redesign, starting with the stuff for the new series and then working backwards. The new site is planned to launch on Wednesday, 2 April 2008, so keep your eyes peeled for that. Personally, I curious about the “new features” that they are adding.

Paul Whitelaw, who is obviously a fan of Doctor Who, from The Scotsman recently interviewed Russell T. Davies. They discussed Davies’ career, his firm commitment to entertaining the kids who watch Doctor Who, and how to stop smoking. Whitelaw did try to weasel some information about the upcoming series out of Davies, but to no avail. Thanks for trying, Paul.

Digital Spy is reporting that BBC Radio 4 is planning to air a Torchwood one-off story to coincide with the opening of the world’s biggest particle accelerator, located in Switzerland. This is scheduled to occur sometime this summer, and I’m quite curious to see what they’ll come up with. I’ll let you know when I hear more.

Louise Jameson, known to Doctor Who fans as the Fourth Doctor’s companion Leela, has picked up a new job on the BBC’s Scottish soap opera, River City. She will be playing a hairdresser by the name of Viv. Here’s hoping that it’s a long-term engagement, as apparently she’s quite enjoying Glasgow. She’s already enjoying herself more than during her stint on EastEnders.

Gareth David-Lloyd, Torchwood’s Ianto Jones, has his own website! So, if you’re curious about his band, or what he’s been up to, you might pop by and have a look.

Don’t forget! Doctor Who series 4 premieres in the UK at 6:20pm on Saturday, 5 April.

Top Gear with Christopher Eccleston

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

Well, we’ve seen Billie Piper do her lap on Top Gear, and David Tennant as well. John Barrowman hasn’t done it yet. Though, considering the fact that he seems to be everywhere, how long can it be? Now, it’s Christopher Eccleston’s turn. Did you know that he first got his license fourteen months before he did this? Wow. Good thing they didn’t need him to drive Bessie or anything for Doctor Who. We also learn that Mr. Eccleston is a runner. No wonder they hired him to play the Doctor. He really can run for his life.

Enjoy!
