News of the Who

John and his sister Carole in SoCal for a book signing.

The fabulous TVShowsOnDVD.com is reporting that the US series one Torchwood Blue-ray DVD set release has been pushed back to 11 November. The normal DVD US release of Torchwood series two is still scheduled for 16 September.

I can hear you out there saying, “well that’s good news for Torchwood, but what about The Sarah Jane Adventures?” ha HA! TVShowsOnDVD.com has the answer. The US release of The Sarah Jane Adventures series one on DVD is scheduled for 7 October. As such, I will be putting it on my birthday list now.

Digital Spy is reporting that Chris Chibnall’s next project, the UK version of Law & Order, will star none other than Freema Agyeman. Wow. Shame she’s not keeping busy. Isn’t this the second non-Who show she’s doing?

According to the San Diego Comic-Con Website registration is now closed. So, if you are headed down to the enjoy the Torchwood and Doctor Who fun they have scheduled, I hope that you have already registered. Also, be sure to let me know what you thought when you get back.

Previews for David Tennant’s Hamlet begin on 24 July, which is…today. For those of you that can’t be there to see it, Whatsonstage.com has some rehearsal pics for you.

This Week in the Whoniverse

Noel Clarke at the premiere of his film Adulthood.

(Well, this site is apparently running on its new hardware now. Sorry for the additional downtime. Here is the post I was working on when it went down again.)

Rumour has it that John Barrowman and his partner are thinking about adopting. It seems that they are building a house on the beach in Cardiff, and word is that they wish to have children to share it with. Barrowman has been talking about the possibility of adopting for a while now. I wonder if they are finally going for it.

Apparently, the BBC isn’t planning to animate any more of the missing Doctor Who episodes at this time. Luckily, there are several fan projects out there aiming to do just that. I can’t wait to see what they manage to come up with. Also, I’m hoping that the BBC will be changing their mind about this.

Rumour and Sarah-Jane.tv have it that series two of the Sarah Jane Adventures will appear on televisions in the UK this Autumn. (Yes! I can’t wait.)

Digital Spy has let us know that the series four finale of Doctor Who attracted 10.5 million viewers in the UK. Wow! I wonder what percentage pf the population that is…

And the winners are: The Constellation Awards winners have been announced! David Tennant won “Best Male Performance in a 2007 Science Fiction Television Episode” for Human Nature/Family of Blood. The winner of the award for “Best Female Performance in a 2007 Science Fiction Television Episode” was a certain Carey Mulligan (better known as Sally Sparrow) for Blink. And Doctor Who itself won the award for “Best Science Fiction Television Series of 2007.” Yay for our team!!!

Russell T Davies recently received an honorary fellowship from Cardiff University. Needless to say, he was very excited about this. I would have been, too.

Nowmagazine.co.uk is reporting that Catherine Tate will be taking it all off for her new role in “Under The Blue Sky” in the West End. Apparently, she will be playing a Math teacher named Michelle who is on the randy side. (You might want to think about getting your tickets soon. I’m just saying…)

News of the Whoniverse

Thursday, July 10th, 2008

freemaatf1party070208.jpg
Freema at the F1 Party in London

The Mirror is reporting that Russell T Davies is writing a book, due out in September, about making series four of Doctor Who. Word is that it won’t be full of scandals, but instead more of interest to writers. Personally, I’m keen to see how his mind works.

Rumour has it (and according to Sarah-Jane.tv) that a certain Brigadier is set to appear in series two of The Sarah Jane Adventures. The rumour goes on to add that Sontarans might be involved in the story. Please pardon me while I squee. I’d love to see The Brig again.

If we ever needed any more proof that Russell T Davies likes to mess with the press, there’s this story: Amy Winehouse to be the next Doctor? All together now. *snicker* Riiiiiiiiiight. That’ll happen. I can hear RTD giggling all the way over here.

John Barrowman will be in L.A. autographing his book on 23 July. So, if any of you happy to be in the vicinity of “Book Soup” in West Hollywood at say…7pm on that day you may wish to stop by.

And finally, a video of David Tennant’s audition for Takin’ Over the Asylum back in 1993 surfaced recently. When he saw the video, David reportedly said “My God, what was I wearing?” Don’t worry. He got the part. Enjoy the audition!

John Barrowman in Dancing on Ice

Wednesday, July 9th, 2008

Generally on Wednesdays I like to post a couple of (more or less) topic appropriate videos. Today is no different.

I’m sure that you are all shocked by this fact. (Hey! I heard that snicker!)

In any case, the first video that I am sharing with you on this particular Wednesday is from the UK’s Dancing on Ice television program. John Barrowman was a contestant on the show. Not too surprising when you consider that he can skate and dance. Oh, and also the fact that he seems to be everywhere these days. This video features his first routine and some of the training that went into it. Apparently he used to ice skate as a kid. He can even skate backwards! I have been ice skating all of once, myself, so I’m quite impressed by all of this. So there you are. Enjoy John and his skating prowess!

Christopher Eccleston, who has already finished filming his part in the G. I. Joe movie, is now reported to be filming a part in Amelia. Eccleston will be playing Earhart’s navigator Fred Noonan. He’s quite the busy fellow, isn’t he? Sigh. It just means that I have more films to go see. I wonder when the G. I. Joe trailer comes out.

On a show called 50 Ways to Leave Your TV Lover, which contained a countdown of the the small screen’s most memorable splits. It turns out that Rose and The Doctor’s separation at the end of Doomsday came in at Number One! Yay for our show. You can see just that part of the show here.

Russell T Davies has been honored with an OBE for services to Drama! (The Late Verity Lambert received an OBE in 2002.)

Did you know that William Hartnell has recently appeared on a stamp? I wonder if the TARDIS has ever been on a stamp. They should do a whole Doctor Who series of stamps! They’d sell like hotcakes. Are you listening Auntie Beeb?

It looks like Gareth David-Lloyd is going to give Hollywood a try. Don’t worry, though. He maintains that it won’t affect his work on Torchwood. Let’s hope that turns out to be the case.

And finally, for a very spoilery look at a baddie from the end of this series you might go here (information) or here (pictures). …But don’t say I didn’t warn you.

Eccleston on Blue Peter (circa 2005)

Thursday, June 5th, 2008

Hi folks! The second half of the Steven Moffat two-parter is on tomorrow in the UK, and “The Doctor’s Daughter” will be making its premiere in the US tonight. While you’re waiting, here is a wee blast from the past. Back in 2005, Christopher Eccleston appeared on Blue Peter to talk about the new version of Doctor Who. Billie Piper was supposed to join him, but she was unfortunately ill that day. On the bright side, they did have a previously filmed interview with her.

Enjoy!

News of the Who

Thursday, June 5th, 2008

sontaranstratagem.jpg

Paul Kasey, Creature actor extraordinaire, recently did an interview with The SciFi World. It turns out that he recently played “Foxy” in the Foxy Bingo commercial. (For the “making of” of the Foxy Bingo commercial, followed by the commercial itself, go here.) One of the things that they talk about in the article is how he originally got the job. I’m starting to recognize him under those costumes occasionally by his body language. Is that weird?

According to the BBC, Freema Agyeman has landed a new part on an updated version of the 1970s show “Survivors.” This show is based upon a book written by Terry “Father of the Daleks” Nation. I may have to check this show out.

If you missed David Tennant on Jonathan Ross last Saturday (I don’t see it on YouTube, sorry.) you can check out Mr. Ross’s podcast instead. Apparently David spent some time talking about Hamlet.

Eve Newton, better known as “The Girl” from Silence in the Library has been interviewed over on the CBBC website. Caution! There is at least one spoiler for the next episode in the interview.

Time Travel and Bedtime Stories

Wednesday, June 4th, 2008

Today I bring you a couple of completely different videos. This first offering features John Barrowman reading a bedtime story for Cbeebies. This Monday edition of the BBC’s Bedtime Story has John reading a cute little story about a near-sighted dinosaur called Bumposaurus. (According to WHSmith, the book is by Penny McKinlay and Britta Teckentrup, in case you are interested in reading it for yourself.) I actually liked this story a bit more that the other one I saw him read. John even has a wee stuffed dinosaur to keep him company while he reads this time.

And Now The News…

Don’t forget that Billie Piper’s show Secret Diary of a Call Girl is starting in the USA on Showtime on 16 June 2008. You can check out the Showtime site for the show for videos, wallpapers, etc.

Speaking of Billie Piper, the rumours of her pregnancy persist. Still no official word, though.

Rumour has it that Neil Gaiman may be writing an episode of Doctor Who. Currently, the speculation is centering on series 5. That could be quite interesting! I can only imagine what we’d end up with. (Thanks for the head’s up, Erik.)

In an interview on EclipseMagazine.com, Eve Myles talks about the difficulty of filming “Exit Wounds” and some of her upcoming projects. Still no new information about series three of Torchwood, sadly.

TVShowsOnDVD.com is announcing that there are some classic Doctor Who adventures and K-9 and Company headed for DVD in September. The Invasion of Time, the Invisible Enemy, and K-9 And Company will appear on shelves in North America on 2 September.

Another David Tennant Radio Interview

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

On 14 April 2008, David Tennant appeared on Colin Murray’s BBC Radio 1 show. Some kind person has taken that interview and placed in on YouTube with a bit of a slide show to keep it visually interesting. Admittedly, this slide show isn’t as nice as the last one I found, so don’t feel too terrible if you just listen to the interview while doing something else. As seems to always be the case when Mr. Tennant does and interview, I was certainly kept entertained. Did you know that when you have to come up with a new name to get your Equity Card, as your name is already in use, you have to come up with three names? Well, in this bit of Radio1 goodness you will learn what a certain actor’s other two choices were. And be sure to listen closely for David to quote some Avril Lavigne lyrics towards the end of the conversation.

Enjoy!

Radio 4’s Chain Reaction

Thursday, May 22nd, 2008

doctordonna2.jpg

A while back, there was an episode of Radio 4’s Chain Reaction in which Catherine Tate interviewed David Tennant. (The following week, David went on to interview someone else.) It was hilarious. Now, someone has kindly posted that radio interview to YouTube, though they won’t let folks embed it. This Mysterious Benefactor has even gone to the trouble of providing you with images relevant to the conversation. I have linked all three parts of the interview below. Oh, and you may not want to try drinking anything while listening, unless you enjoy having drinks up your nose.

Enjoy!

John Simm Reads for Cbeebies

Wednesday, May 21st, 2008

John Simm, known in the Whoniverse as Harold Saxon/The Master, reads Me and My Mammothfor the Cbeebies Bedtime Story in this video. It’s a cute little story. I don’t know about you, but I wouldn’t mind ending up with a live Mammoth when I was trying to make an airplane.

…I’m just sayin’. Enjoy!

David Tennant on Derren Brown’s Trick or Treat

Friday, May 16th, 2008

Back in January, illusionist Derren Brown ambushed David Tennant to get him to be in an episode of Derren Brown’s Trick or Treat. They finally showed the episode tonight. David had previously indicated that he’d be interested to be on the show, apparently, so it shouldn’t be too surprising to discover that he was all for it. He participated in three different experiments, one of which involved him traveling back in time to the 1930s.

I’m going to tell you know that this is a little bit freaky. David feels the same way, or so he says in the episode. Don’t be scared off, though. If It were scary, I wouldn’t have watched it. (Those of you who know me personally can vouch for this.) The whole thing is more intriguing than anything else. Also, you get to see David in a tight-fitting wet suit at one point.

Watch it before Youtube takes it down, and enjoy.

David Tennant - Still Sexy

Monday, May 12th, 2008

Even sexy dressed down

dtathp5inlondon.jpg

David Tennant has been voted TV’s Sexiest Leading Man in a poll run by digital channel Hallmark, The Daily Record (and many other places) is reporting. It seems that he got nearly a quarter of all the votes. The poll also found that thirty-eight percent of responders “said charisma was the key component for a leading man.” Thirty-six percent maintained that “looking good” was the key ingredient, and twelve percent said “not playing by the rules” got their vote. Who else could they have chosen for the number one spot?

Way to go David!
