Book Review: Doctor Who - The Shooting Scripts

Doctor Who: The Shooting Scripts contains the almost final scripts for the episodes from season one of the new Doctor Who. I wish that they would publish a book of the scripts for season two, as this one is just fabulous. Each episode’s script is accompanied by an introduction by the author of that episode. Sometimes, this gives the reader some background on where the idea for the episode came from or information on previous versions. For example, the Dalek wasn’t always in “Dalek.” There was some question about the rights to use the character. Okay, I just love this book. I love being able to read the stage directions as they give just a bit of extra insight into the episode. The couple of scenes that are in the script, but didn’t make it into the final cut of the episode, are a little window into what might have been. The pictures that accompany the scripts really add to the fun. I want season two. Actually, while we’re dreaming big, I want the Torchwood scripts too.

If you want a review on any of the 280 DW books I just happen to own, give me a shout.
Actually, that’s pretty easy: most of them are awesome. Spiral Scratch was too wierd, and Left-Handed Hummingbird delightfully surreal.

The Scriptbook was nice, because you got to read lots of additional bits, and snipped sections.

Yes, there should be MORE scriptbooks.
In fact, we should lead a peaceful protest. Who’s *sniggers and recovers composure for take two*

    Who’s with me?!
We want more books - when do we want them? NOW! Why do we want them? BECAUSE!
    We want more books…

I bought a new bookcase just for my Doctor Who books, and so they should be kind enough to help me fill it up.

    More books!

*grins* Um - I already filled one case, I’m filling a second, and I had to put two extra shelves in. I’ve just found some difficult to get ones, and snapped them up at a bargain price, including Slow Empire, Bullet Time and Space Age.

I always check my local big library when they have a sale, but one of the female librarians is a big fan and snaffles them all… could this be you, do you think? :P Big bus station just down the road?

  5. Elisa Says:

Nope. That wasn’t me. Can’t prove a thing.
    *giggle*

  6. IBF Says:

You sure? I may have some interesting spares you might like to swap…?

  7. Elisa Says:

That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
    :)
